American League MVP Award Odds to Target at Caesars Sportsbook
May 9, 2024MLB Same Game Parlay Picks, Odds & Predictions – Saturday, May 11
May 9, 2024We’re now 5+ weeks into the regular season, and the contenders for the Home Run King title, according to Caesars Sportsbook, are becoming clearer. Shohei Ohtani (+400), Pete Alonso (+750), and Aaron Judge (+850) are currently the only players with odds offerings of less than 10-1. Ohtani leads in home runs with 11, followed by Judge with seven, and Alonso with nine. Before the season started, I suggested taking fliers on Alonso (+1100), Adolis Garcia (+4500), and Triston Casas (+12500) on the most home run futures odds. Except for Casas, all have seen shorter returns on investment, mainly due to Casas’ injury putting him on the 60-day IL with torn rib cartilage. Despite slow starts from many power hitters and plenty of baseball left in the season, there’s still considerable value across the current betting market. Let’s explore which players might be worth adding to the portfolio in order to enhance the excitement and intrigue of the remaining baseball betting season.

Favorite: Kyle Tucker +3500
I’m surprised that Kyle Tucker’s odds of leading the league in the home run stat category by the end of the regular season haven’t shortened up further from his +5500 opener. Despite the Houston Astros facing challenges after Dusty Baker’s departure with the team bringing up the rear of the AL West, Tucker is having his best start to a season since debuting back in 2018. After batting .284 and hitting 29 home runs last season, earning his first Silver Slugger Award and MVP Award notoriety, he’s proving his batting prowess and evolution as a hitter.
Although his career-high is 30 home runs, he’s already hit 10 to this point of the season which amounts to the fastest he’s reached double digits in his seven-year career. Gunnar Henderson also has 10 home runs, and his odds opened similarly to Tucker’s, but his return rate is shorter (+1600). Given that Tucker has only played 12 games in the band box otherwise known as Minute Maid Park, there’s solid value in his current 35-1 payoff.
Underdog: Ronald Acuna Jr. +7000
While it’s true that the reigning NL MVP has gotten out to a noticeably slow start in the home run race, having only hit two home runs in his 153 plate appearances, his current price tag presents a tempting opportunity for a small investment and a wager on a turnaround over the remaining five months of the regular season. He has previously exceeded the 40-home run mark in his two healthy seasons, and despite an injury scare in early April, he has played in all 33 of Atlanta’s games.
The Braves’ offense has been strong in terms of average (#4), OPS (#5), and run production (#4), but they’ve struggled in the home run department (#20). It’s surprising that Ronald Acuna Jr., Matt Olson, and Austin Riley have only managed a combined total of eight home runs so far. With warmer weather arriving and Truist Park among several NL East stadiums that favor hitters, it seems inevitable that the Braves’ star outfielder will soon be launching baseballs into the stratosphere.
Longshot: Christopher Morel +17500
If you haven’t been keeping an eye on Christopher Morel this baseball season, it’s worth noting that the Cubs’ third baseman seems destined to become a home run hitter for the foreseeable future. Despite MLB.com listing him at 5’11” and 145 pounds, there’s no way he weighs less than 150 lbs. – just take a look at him! At 24 years old, Morel is growing into his body as a professional ballplayer and currently ranks near the top of the leaderboard with eight home runs and 24 RBIs, leading the team in both categories.
This right-handed hitter has shown streaks of brilliance, with five of his home runs coming in just five of his last nine games. Additionally, he’s improved his strikeout and walk rates, with strikeouts down to 21.3% from 31.6% and walks up to 12.0% from 8.7%. With his overall performance steadily improving, Morel’s knack for delivering clutch hits suggests that 2024 could be a standout season for this rising star.
