Bet American League Cy Young Award Odds at Caesars Sportsbook

April 30, 2024Before the baseball betting season commenced, I took fliers on Justin Steele (+2000), Walker Buehler (+5000), and Michael King (+10000) on the National League Cy Young Award odds over at Caesars Sportsbook. Unfortunately, I can receive better rates of return on two of those three arms on the current odds to win the award with King’s offering the only one that hasn’t moved. With a month’s worth of baseball betting action now in the books, it’s time to reassess the futures odds and see which pitchers should be added to the portfolio. As such, here are some recommendations to throw into the mix with plenty more baseball yet to be played.

Freddy Peralta +850
I’m incredibly disappointed in myself for not taking a preseason chance on Freddy Peralta at 30-1! Craig Counsell’s departure to the Northside completely distracted me from recognizing that the 27-year-old right-hander is currently in his prime. Moreover, he possesses the dynamic skills to lead the way for the underwhelming starting rotation of the Brewers. In each of his five starts this season, Milwaukee has emerged victorious, with Peralta an out short of tossing four straight quality starts. Although he recently had his worst performance of the season against the Pirates, if he can bounce back and deliver strong performances against the Rays and Royals in his next two starts, we might seriously be witnessing his coming of age campaign.
Aaron Nola +2000
While Zack Wheeler is currently receiving much praise and is the +350 favorite to win the Cy Young Award at Caesars, I believe his teammate presents an incredible opportunity for a substantial return on investment. Aaron Nola has been instrumental in leading the Phillies to victory in all five of his April starts, securing four personal wins in the process. During this impressive stretch, he has allowed just 20 hits (5 HR) and 8 earned runs, while striking out 33 batters and issuing only 10 walks across 35 combined innings. With his exceptional form and consistency, the soon-to-be 31-year-old is delivering outstanding results, and oddsmakers seem to be undervaluing his current performance compared to preseason expectations. Don’t let ‘em get away with it!
Hunter Greene +5000
While the 24-year old’s 3.1 walk rate is still concerning, it’s down from 3.9 of a year ago and looks to be improving. Armed with the league’s third-best fastball velocity and 25th ranked K rate per Pitcher List, the right-hander has only conceded 26 hits (2 HR) and 14 ER with an impressive 42:13 K/BB ratio through his near 35 total innings of work. The Reds might only sit two-games over .500 right now ($38), but they’re a team I believe will only get better as the season progresses once bats and gloves that belong to John McLain, Noelvi Marte, and T.J. Friedl find their way back onto the playing field. This team has all the pieces to win the NL Central (+500). If that comes to fruition down the road, the of contributions of Hunter Greene will be one of the many reasons why!
Justin Steele +6500
I will continue banging the drum for Justin Steele much like I did at the outset of the season if linemakers are going to offer up this type of ROI for one of the best pitchers the National League currently has to offer. A hamstring injury in his initial start has shelved the left-hander, but expectations are that he will be back atop Chicago’s starting rotation in mid-May. Should that be the case, he’ll have the added advantage of having one fewer month of wear on his throwing arm which could set him up for success when it matters most in September. Should he return to the bump and dominate much like he did all of last season, savvy futures odds bettors will be seen grinning from ear-to-ear knowing they got a lottery ticket in their back pocket.
