This is yet another significant development in the recent convergence of sports betting and the media. FanDuel, which had the distinction of being the official sports odds source for the Associated Press, will be replaced by BetMGM. From 2021 until the contract’s eventual expiration earlier this year, FanDuel served in that capacity.
“It is a special opportunity for BetMGM to align with the Associated Press, a leading global news source that billions around the world rely on for the most up-to-date coverage.” said BetMGM Chief Revenue Officer Matt Prevost in a press release. “Being a trusted resource within that forum is an important connection to expand our reach, and we look forward to providing content that enhances the organization’s coverage.”
Based in the New Jersey sports betting market, BetMGM will enjoy a significant boost in visibility as a result of a recent agreement with the Associated Press. Now, 44.2 million monthly Associated Press users worldwide will have access to its odds. From now on, BetMGM odds will be linked to every Associated Press daily sports feature. This applies to all sports articles that have previously used odds for their information, including previews of upcoming games. It is said that the Associated Press will continue to have editorial authority over its material.
AP Director of Global Text and Commercial Products Barry Bedlan said in a press release, “People want trustworthy sports betting information, and we are pleased to work with BetMGM to provide a dependable and credible reference point for our customers and audiences.”
BetMGM is trying to compete with the two big boys in terms of online sports betting, Fan Duel and DraftKings. In terms of diversifying the methods it offers its goods to the general public, BetMGM has been among, if not the most innovative sportsbook. The company’s most recent sportsbook/media collaboration is with AP. BetMGM and “X,” formerly Twitter, inked a historic partnership agreement in February. At that point, the business emerged as the first—and currently the only—partner for a social media business with 550 million active members. The Marriott Bonvoy collaboration, which connects BetMGM and Marriott Bonvoy accounts and enables users to accrue reward points for use with either company, is one of the innovative alliances that BetMGM signed in the past year.
