The PGA Tour heads to Utah this week for a new event, the Black Desert Championship. It is part of the FedExCup Fall Schedule and none of the world’s top 40 players are in the field. The highest ranked player in the field is Chris Kirk at No. 41 in the world and he is not the golf betting favorite. Keith Mitchell is listed as the favorite at PROLINE+ at odds of 17-1. He is followed by Kurt Kitayama at 26-1 and Seamus Power at 29-1. A couple of players from Utah are in the field this week, as Zac Blair and Patrick Fishburn will tee it up. Those two teamed up to finish in a tie for fourth at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Last week’s winner, Kevin Yu, will look to make it two in a row after winning the Sanderson Farms Championship. Favorite
Keith Mitchell 17-1
It should go without saying by now that I don’t take golf betting favorites except on rare occasions. Mitchell was listed as the favorite last week and although he played well, he didn’t win. He is at least worth considering this week, as he ranks 15th on the PGA Tour in driving distance and this course is going to be all about hitting it far, as the fairways are wide and the greens are big. I am not a fan of betting favorites, but Mitchell is at least worth a look this week at these golf odds.
Golf Picks
Michael Thorbjornsen 34-1
A popular pick this week is Thorbjornsen and why not? He is third on the PGA Tour in driving distance and the course this week is definitely set up for a player who can drive it a long way, as the fairways are wide and the greens are large. He played well last week and finished in 9th place. He should appreciate the Bentgrass greens this week and we know he can win, as he won seven times as an amateur.
Ryan Fox 36-1
One player who knows how to win is Fox, who has won four times on the DP World Tour. He played well last week at the Sanderson Farms Championship finishing in 11th place. He hit the ball well last week, as he was 6th in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee. He should appreciate the wide fairways this week and we get 36-1 in golf betting odds.
Lucas Glover 46-1
Glover tied for 3rd last week so he comes in playing well and we know he can win, as he has won six times on the PGA Tour. He is another player that should appreciate the large greens. He has played well in the desert in the past with a win in Arizona and solid finishes in Las Vegas.
Chandler Phillips 66-1
Phillips is a rookie who has looked good. He has played well on Bentgrass greens in the past and he has been driving the ball really well lately. He ranks highly in a number of key categories this week including 12th in Birdie Average. I think he has a shot at big PGA betting odds.
Nick Taylor 81-1
Taylor isn’t playing that well, but that has never stopped him from winning in the past, as oftentimes he comes out of nowhere to win. He has won four times on the PGA Tour and on course like this one. He likes shorter courses and he plays well in the desert, as he won at TPC Scottsdale this season.
Cameron Champ 101-1
I have to throw Champ in here at huge odds. I don’t think Champ is that good a golfer but one thing he does better than anyone else is hit the ball a ton.
