Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley II
This fight is scheduled for eight rounds and is a rematch, as the two fought in August with Paul winning a split decision. Paul is 4-0 in his boxing career with three knockouts while this will be just the second boxing match for Woodley in his career. Woodley did some damage to Paul in their first fight, but it was not enough for him to get the decision.
Woodley is stepping in on short notice, as he replaces the injured Tommy Fury. Woodley said that there is a rematch clause in this fight with Paul; probably because Woodley expects to win. “Of course I’m down for a trilogy. Yes, it is a rematch clause in there,” Woodley told TMZ. “I’m going to put that on him. After I knock you out, Mr. Betting Man, are you going to run or are you going to try to fight somebody else or are you going to come and get this work again?”
Woodley was able to hurt Paul in the fourth round of their first fight, but it was Paul who landed more punches. “I felt like I won the fight, but when I go back out there and beat his ass and win this fight and win by knockout and go onto a trilogy and do it again and leave no doubt, that’s the real ‘leave no doubt,’” Woodley said to the media, “To me, there was no doubt the first time. I watched the fight last night. How do you lose (Rounds) 4, 5, 6, 7, 8? He didn’t win one round after Round 4, and he clearly lost Round 4. So without the knockdown, without 10-8, there was no doubt the first time. So this is the nail in the coffin, basically what I should have done the first time. The third time will be no doubt.”
While Woodley definitely did some damage against Paul in their first fight, Paul was the better fighter overall. Paul will have to make some adjustments for this rematch. There is a good chance that Paul will be able to do things differently, as he is still learning how to box. Paul’s trainer BJ Flores said that Paul is much better than he was in late August.
“Jake’s a lot better now than he was on August 29th, he’s a lot better.” Flores said to the media, “And you’ve got to remember, he just started boxing, so in a short period he gets a lot better very quickly. He’s only been boxing two years, so four months is 15 percent of his entire career, so he’s getting a lot better. I know it will be a tough fight, Tyron will be tough in the beginning, but we expect Tyron won’t go the distance this time.”
There is definitely some pressure on Woodley in this fight, as this is likely his last chance at a big payday. He ended his UFC career having lost four in a row and if he loses this fight to Paul, he would have lost twice to a YouTube star. Woodley is talking big and needs to back up that big talk.
