May 4, 2022Wells Fargo Championship Matchups Picks
May 4, 2022Richard Bland will look to defend his British Masters title this week at the Belfry. Bland was a huge story last year when he got his first DP World Tour win after going for decades without a win. Bland has capitalized on that win and played well in a number of events, including some on the PGA Tour. Bland is not listed as the favorite this week, as that honor goes to Robert MacIntyre. I have been doing really well with PGA matchups, but I am struggling with the matchups on the DP World Tour. Let’s look at British Masters matchups picks.

Golf Picks
Robert MacIntyre -114 vs. Lee Westwood
Robert MacIntyre is listed as the overall betting favorite in this event. He played well a year ago and was tied for the lead entering the final round. He played well last week in Spain and I expect him to contend for the win this week. Westwood is a big name, but he doesn’t contend that often and I think MacIntyre is the better choice in this matchup.
Laurie Canter -120 vs. Richard Bland
Canter has had his chances to win in recent years and he has given away a lot of opportunities. He had some bad shots last week but hung in there and still finished third. He played well in this event a year ago and I expect him to be in the mix this week. Bland will have to deal with the hoopla of being the defending champion and I don’t know that he will be in top form this week. I’ll take Canter in this matchup.
Adrian Otaegui -105 vs. Danny Willett
It was just a couple of weeks ago that Otaegui finished in second place. He did miss the cut last week but a letdown was natural. There is no question that Spanish golfers are on a nice run and I expect Otaegui to play well this week. Willett is a big name who hasn’t played at a high level for quite some time. I don’t see that changing this week, so I will take Otaegui.
Viktor Perez -101 vs. Thorbjorn Olesen
Perez played well a couple of weeks go with an eighth place finish and then missed the cut last week. He is a very good putter and when he gets hot, he is a threat to win. He is also a very accurate driver and that is important at Belfry. I went against Olesen last week and I am going against him again in this matchup.
Jason Scrivener -143 vs. Johannes Veerman
I know that Scrivener missed the cut in this event a year ago, but he comes in playing much better this year. He finished 18th in Spain last week and ranked really well in strokes gained: tee-to-green. I’ll lay the price and take him in this matchup against Veerman.
Jorge Campillo -125 vs. Scott Jamieson
Campillo finished in seventh place in this event a couple of years ago. He is playing well, making the cut in 9 of his last 10 events. He was third in greens hit last week. I’ll lay the small price and take him in this matchup against Jamieson.
