December 17, 2024Broncos at Chargers Same Game Parlay Recap
It had been a good run of success on Thursday Night NFL same game parlays, but it was a losing parlay for us on Thursday, December 19th with the Chargers rallying for a 34-27 win that covered the spread for Los Angeles and sent the game over the total. Both teams scored a lot more points than usual, as it was 21-13 at the half, meaning the total was pretty much done at the half since we had the under. The Broncos gave up way too many yards to the Chargers and ended up not only losing outright, but failing to cover the spread. Let’s look at the Broncos at Chargers same game parlay recap.
The Chargers came back for a 34-27 victory as Justin Herbert passed for 284 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning 19-yard pass to Derius Davis early in the fourth quarter. Cameron Dicker made the first successful free kick in the NFL in 48 years as part of the Chargers’ comeback. On the last play of the first half, he made a 57-yard free kick to cut the Denver lead to 21–13.
Denver (9-6) had a chance to secure a postseason berth, but their four-game winning streak was ended. Despite their difficult remaining tests—at home against Kansas City in Week 18 and at Cincinnati on December 28—the Broncos still have an 85% probability of making the playoffs.
After scoring on their opening three drives to take a 21-10 lead, the Broncos looked to be well on their way to securing their first postseason appearance since 2015. However, the Chargers came roaring back after Wil Lutz’s 41-yard field goal halfway through the third quarter gave the Broncos a 24–13 lead. Bo Nix completed 29 of 40 throws for 263 yards and two touchdowns.
The Bolts were within 24-19 after Gus Edwards, who had 14 carries for 68 yards, scored his second touchdown of the game. Herbert was stopped short of the goal line, making the 2-point conversion unsuccessful. The Chargers seized their first lead when Denver went three-and-out for the second time in three drives. With 12:29 left, Herbert, who completed 23 of 30 throws with an interception, scampered left and threw across his body off his left foot to Davis. For the 2-point conversion, Herbert then found Joshua Palmer in the rear of the end zone. To make it 27-24, Palmer went out of bounds after making a one-handed grab. With 2:27 left, Herbert’s 34-yard touchdown pass to Hassan Haskins put Los Angeles out of reach. With 57 seconds left, Lutz hit a 55-yard field goal to put Denver within a touchdown, but Nick Niemann of Los Angeles recovered the onside kick to end any dreams of a comeback.

Denver Broncos
The Broncos are averaging 24 points per game which is 11th in the league and they are giving up just 17.6 points per contest which is 2nd in the NFL. Javonte Williams leads the team in rushing with 461 yards, Bo Nix has thrown for 2,972 yards, while Courtland Sutton leads the team in receiving with 878 yards. The Broncos can clinch a playoff spot on Thursday with a win over the Chargers. “It’s a great opportunity that’s ahead of us,” wide receiver Courtland Sutton said to the media, “I haven’t been able to even sniff it (playoff spot), and to be in a position to know that if we finish strong we can better our seeding in the playoffs is an amazing feeling. We’ve got a nice little stretch coming up. Some really good games coming up.”
Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers are averaging 21 points per game which ranks just 21st in the league and they are giving up 17.6 points per contest which is 3rd in the NFL. J.K. Dobbins still leads the team in rushing with 766 yards even though he is out for the season due to injury. Justin Herbert has thrown for 2,959 yards, while Ladd McConkey leads the team with 873 receiving yards. This is a huge game for the Chargers and despite losing their last two games, safety Derwin James is supremely confident. “120% confidence,” James said to the media, “I can sleep good at night knowing that I have confidence in the men in the locker room and the coaches.”
Broncos vs. Chargers Series
Denver has won six of the last 10 against Los Angeles and they are 7-2-1 ATS with five games going over the total and five going under. The Chargers won 23-16 in Denver in mid-October. The Chargers have won three of the last four at home in this series, but they are 1-3 ATS. Three of those four games went under the total.
Broncos at Chargers Same Game Parlay Pick
This seems like it is a must-win game for the Chargers but in reality, it is not. The Chargers can lose this game and still make the playoffs by winning their last two games against the Patriots and Raiders. How many times have we seen teams that needed to win fall flat? This should be a game that the Chargers get up for and win at home, but I don’t trust them. Perhaps if this game was a pick, I would consider taking Los Angeles, but I am not laying points with the Chargers. I’ll take the 3.5 points and go with the Broncos. Neither of these offenses has been impressive, so I will also take the game under the total.
