How to Play Let It Ride

November 9, 2023Adam Scott is favored to win this week’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship. There are just two events remaining in the PGA Tour FedExCup Fall schedule, as some players look to wrap up a spot in next year’s PGA Tour. There are no top ranked players in the field this week, so Scott is the lukewarm favorite. Scott is listed at +1400 in golf betting odds at Caesars. I have gone 3-3 with the matchup picks in each of the last three PGA tournaments. Let’s look at Butterfield Bermuda Championship matchup picks.

Defending Champion: Seamus Power
Tournament Notes: Port Royal is a par 71 and measures 6,828 yards. It is short by PGA Tour standards but the wind can be a factor when it comes to scoring. The forecast is for calm winds on Thursday but increasing over the weekend. The first six holes on the course are played away from the coast and they are protected by the wind to some extent to a fast start is critical for players to have success. The wind is a big factor from holes 7-10 and holes 14-18. The 17th hole is a par 5 where eagles can be made if players avoid the water and the fairway bunkers.

Golf Picks
Brendon Todd -125 vs. Lucas Herbert
Todd won this event in its first year on the PGA Tour. He is looking to move up five spots in the World Golf Ranking, as he currently sits 55th. Herbert won this event in 2021 and then didn’t play last year. I’ll lay the small price and take Todd in this matchup.
Nick Hardy -125 vs. Ryan Palmer
Hardy played well in this event a year ago, as he finished in a tie for 23rd. He comes in playing well, as he tied for 23rd last week. Palmer hasn’t been on many leaderboards this year and I don’t know that he gets it going this week. I’ll take Hardy in this matchup.
Alex Smalley -120 vs. Doug Ghim
Smalley definitely likes to play this course, as he tied for 12th two years ago and tied for 11th last year. He is 58th in the current FedExCup standings. He has a scoring average of 68.13 at Port Royal. I’ll take Smalley in this matchup.
Alex Noren -120 vs. Mark Hubbard
One of the players I liked in the odds preview was Noren and I will take him in this matchup against Hubbard. Noren has played well of late and he has the short game to do well on this course.
Matti Schmid -120 vs. Adam Long
Schmid is getting closer to putting it all together. He was in good shape last week until a poor third round. He still managed to finish in a tie for 38th. He played well in Spain three weeks ago with a runner-up finish. I’ll take him in this matchup against Long.
Troy Merritt -115 vs. Austin Smotherman
Merritt comes in playing well and he is now in position to make it into the Top 125 for next season, as he is 119th in the standings. He has made the cut in five straight starts including two top 10 finishes. I’ll take him in this matchup against Smotherman.
