MLB Same Game Parlay Picks, Odds & Predictions – Sunday, July 14
July 12, 2024CFB Futures – 2024 Iowa Hawkeyes Win Total Odds
July 15, 2024For the first time in two years the Georgia Bulldogs aren’t defending a national championship, but the 2024 edition is poised for a return trip. Thwarted in their attempt for a three-peat by rival Alabama in the SEC Championship game, the Dawgs boast a deep, talented roster that many feel is the best in the country. Last year Carson Beck took over for Stetson Bennett and the offense didn’t miss a beat averaging more than 40 points. Beck is among the Heisman Trophy favorites entering the season and the Georgia defense has consistently ranked among the best nationally under Kirby Smart. The Dawgs cashed the OVER on their win total last year and again have little margin for error with the number positioned at 10.5 at BetMGM.
Regular Season Wins for the Georgia Bulldogs
Over 10.5 (-135)
Under 10.5 (+110)
Losing isn’t an option in Athens. Overall the Bulldogs are a remarkable 42-2 over the past three seasons with a pair of national titles. Their only losses over that span were to Alabama in the 2021 and 2023 SEC title game. They survived the first loss reaching the College Football Playoff and beating the Tide in the national championship game. They didn’t get an invite last season after losing to the Tide by a field goal snapping their 29-game winning streak. In their last six full seasons under Kirby Smart, the Dawgs haven’t lost more than one regular season game in any of them.

Roster
It’s hard to argue against Georgia being the preeminent college football program, especially over the last few years. Since going 8-2 in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, the Dawgs have won more than 95 percent of their games. Hell, they were good before that, just not as dominant. From 2017 to 2019 they were ONLY 36-7. However, in each of those six seasons Georgia won at least 11 regular season games and ran the table going 12-0 in each of the last three.
There’s little to suggest that’s going to change in 2024. The offense should again be one of the most explosive in the country led by Carson Beck. The Heisman hopeful elected to return for another season after the disappointment of not being a playoff participant a year ago. And the Dawgs had good reason to be pissed. They won all 12 games taking down four ranked opponents by a combined score of 171-61. Beck was the trigger behind the nation’s fifth-highest scoring offense completing 72.4 percent of his passes for 24 touchdowns and only six interceptions.
Dominic Lovett, who finished second on the team with 54 receptions, 613 yards and four touchdowns, headlines a deep group of receivers. Florida transfer Trevor Etienne will be a featured running back after going for 753 yards and eight touchdowns a season ago while averaging 5.7 yards a carry. All the skill players will operate behind a line that returns plenty of beef and experience.
It’s easy to talk about an offense that racks up yards and points at an alarming pace. But the defense under Smart has been just as lethal. Last year the group held 10 opponents to 20 points or less and no one scored more than 27 points. Things change every year and key players need to be replaced in the secondary. However, three five-star recruits are waiting for the chance to show what they can do. The group of linebackers is big, fast and strong giving the Dawgs plenty of reason to believe they should be a top 5 unit again.
Schedule
There are three games of great concern on the 2024 slate and none of them are between the hedges. The Dawgs open against what is expected to be an improved Clemson squad in Atlanta and also face Alabama and Texas on the road. The Week 5 tilt with the Tide does come after a bye, but the Dawgs have lost eight of nine previous meetings. The matchup with Texas is the first between the programs as SEC members with the Horns looking to contend for a national championship after reaching the CFP semifinals and closing the 2023 season at 12-2. UGA also has conference road games against Kentucky and Ole Miss.
Prediction
CFB odds favor Georgia going OVER their projected total, which is actually one win fewer than their 2023 total. I thought the Dawgs would lose a game last season and they didn’t. In each of three regular seasons before the COVID-shortened campaign they were 11-1 and they went 12-0 in the three since. They just don’t lose and despite a seemingly more difficult schedule, you can say the Dawgs are a better team than they were last year. And that’s enough for me to back the OVER.
