February 28, 2024National League MVP Award Odds to Target at Caesars Sportsbook
February 28, 2024Rory McIlroy is a solid favorite to win this week’s PGA Tour event in Florida, the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches. Honda Classic was definitely simpler to say, but Honda ended their sponsorship. The event stays at PGA National but the field this time around is not that strong. McIlroy is one of the few big names to be teeing it up this week. I am coming off a 4-2 week with the matchups at the Mexico Open and that makes it 8-3 with the matchups in the last two weeks. Let’s look at Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches matchup picks.

Defending Champion: Chris Kirk
Tournament Notes: PGA National has been the host for this tournament and it has been a tough course for the players. The course has some challenging par 3 and par 4 holes and the course features “The Bear Trap” which are holes 15-17.

Golf Matchup Picks
Cameron Young -130 vs. Matt Fitzpatrick
I said in the odds preview that I think Young has a chance to contend. He plays well on tough courses and there is no question PGA National is a tough course. Is it time to say the win by Fitzpatrick in the U.S. Open was a bit of a fluke? We keep waiting for Fitzpatrick to do something and the results just haven’t been there. I’ll take Young in this matchup against Fitzpatrick.
Sepp Straka -120 vs. Beau Hossler
I have to say at the beginning of this matchup that I have gone against Hossler in the past and it hasn’t always worked out. I am still not sold Hossler is that good and on a tough course I think he will really struggle. Straka has played well on this course in the past including a win and a top five finish. I’ll take him at the short price in this PGA Tour betting matchup.
Erik van Rooyen -110 vs. Thorbjorn Olesen
There is no question that van Rooyen is playing well and I am not sold on Olesen making the transition to the PGA Tour. Last week van Rooyen led after the first round in Mexico and finished in a tie for 8th. I will take him in this golf matchup against Olesen.
Byeong-Hun An -135 vs. Shane Lowry
An continues to play well and he definitely likes PGA National, as he tied for 5th in 2018 and he tied for 4th in 2020. Lowry hasn’t been playing that well of late and yes, I know he has played well in the past in this tournament, but I don’t like his current form. I’ll take An in this golf betting matchup against Lowry.
Eric Cole -130 vs. Tom Kim
Is it time to pump the brakes a bit on Tom Kim? His meteoric rise in golf has stalled and he hasn’t been in contention for a win in some time. Cole already has five top 25 finishes this year. He played well in his debut in this event, losing in a playoff. I’ll take Cole in this matchup against Kim.
