College Basketball Odds to Win Big 12 Title
February 15, 2022The Genesis Invitational Odds and Picks
February 15, 2022If you can believe it, the Duke Blue Devils haven’t won the regular season ACC title since 2010 when they finished tied atop the standings along with the Maryland Terrapins. Coach K has the Dookies in a position to snap that 11 year streak with his kids currently sitting atop the ACC standings tied along with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish whom it holds the tiebreaker over. With six games remaining on the docket, Paolo Banchero and his running mates are currently the decided -300 favorites to seal the deal at DraftKings Sportsbook. But will it be as easy as linemakers over there expect? From the looks of the conference top to bottom, likely not. That still won’t stop me from taking a few fliers on some other squads with the final three weeks of the college hoops betting season still to play out. Along with the Blue Devils, behold my underdog and longshot selections to win the ACC’s regular season title.

Favorite to Bet: Duke Blue Devils -300
Currently the No. 7 ranked team according to the Pomeroy Ratings, there isn’t a whole lot to dislike about Duke’s overall body of work. Its offense has been smooth like butter (No. 19) and it does a tremendous job limiting turnovers (No. 21). Defensively, the Blue Devils sport the nation’s No. 18 ranked unit in terms of efficiency that defends in the paint (No. 31) and has been even better along the perimeter (No. 14). While its defensive rebounding (No. 194) and horrific free throw shooting (No. 234) likely get the best of them in the Dance, the team has already shown it can get away with it in conference play evidenced by its 11-3 SU record. Bottom line, the ACC still isn’t good. It sent seven teams to last year’s tournament and only three made it to the second round. While the end of season schedule has some landmines, the team will likely go all-out to avenge two of the three ACC losses incurred against Virginia and Florida State. Should it take two of three on the three-game roady that begins in Charlottesville on February 23, it’ll be nearly impossible to prevent them from taking home bragging rights.
Underdog to Bet: Miami Hurricanes +1000
Jim Larranaga has the Canes within striking distance. Sitting 10-4 SU heading into Wednesday night’s road trek to Louisville, it’s Miami that looks to have the easiest remaining schedule of potential contenders to steal the title away from the Dookies. After the Ville, Miami will host a down Virginia team and then return to the hardwood to oppose PITT on the road. They’ll return home for a big one against Virginia Tech on February 26 and will close the regular season out on the road at BC and Syracuse. The trio of Kameron McGusty (17.8 PPG), Isaiah Wong (15.8 PPG) and Charlie Moore (12.3 PPG) is one of the best the ACC currently has to offer. This is a team that simply just gets it done at the offensive end of the court in averaging a tick under 75 points per game (No. 85) while shooting better than 47 percent from the field (No. 40). There are warts however. Specifically at the other end of the court where its defense has been taken advantage of from both 2-point (No. 315) and 3-point (No. 287) range. It’s already got a win over the Dookies under the belt, so anything can happen should the Blue Devils slip up. At 10-1, it’s worth a beer money investment if nothing else!
Longshot to Bet: Virginia Tech Hokies +50000
I wouldn’t argue if you decided to take fliers on the other two 500-1 dart throws. Syracuse had been shooting the lights out up until running into Virginia Tech, while the Florida State Seminoles are bound to get some of their walking wounded back onto the hardwood. There’s line value there! I however will attach my wagon to the Hokies who’ve been playing a gritty brand of ball under Mike Young’s watch. VTECH just propelled itself over the breakeven point in ACC play on Monday with a win and cover at home against UVA. Though only two of its final five games will take place in Blacksburg, it gets the benefit of running up against Georgia Tech and Clemson who will not return to the NCAA tournament unless it wins the ACC tourney with a sandwich spot against Miami nestled in between. Keve Aluma and his mates have caught fire in rattling off six straight wins (5-1 ATS). While each and every one of them came against conference cellar dwellers, the squad also has a dub against Notre Dame under the belt and led Duke 36-32 at halftime in Cameron before fizzling out in the second half. This team is gaining confidence and flying under the radar. You’ll hate yourself if you don’t strike now should it remain on fire and make things a wee bit more interesting. It’ll be favored to win four of its last five matchups with the game in Miami around a pick ‘em – get your popcorn ready!
