USFL Season Update
February 15, 2022College Basketball Odds to Win ACC Title
February 15, 2022The Kansas Jayhawks have won a whopping 19 regular season Big 12 men’s basketball championships. The league has crowned a grand total of 25 champions, so that means the crimson and blue have won 76 percent of available league titles. And guess what? FanDuel Sportsbook currently has Bill Self’s troops installed slight favorites to win No. 20 come the first week of March over the likes of the Baylor Bears, Texas Tech Red Raiders and Texas Longhorns. As top heavy this league has been in 2021-22, those are likely the only four teams that have a chance of cutting down the nets come the conclusion of the college basketball betting season. With KU up a game over the Bears who just succumbed to a huge end of season injury to Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua, the Jayhawks have the inside track to reclaim the title from the reigning champs. Their showdown in Waco on February 26 will go a long way in deciding that. Lying in the weeds are the Red Raiders and Longhorns with the latter the only of the two with a game remaining against Kansas after stealing one from them in Austin on February 7. As great Kansas looks right now to take home bragging rights, this regular season title chase is far from over. Along with KU, behold my underdog and longshot selections to win the Big 12’s regular season title.

Favorite to Bet: Kansas Jayhawks -195
Bill Self hit the transfer portal hard this past offseason in hopes of putting some life into a Kansas roster that grossly failed to live up to expectations a year removed from having a potential national title stolen away from them due to COVID-19. Surprisingly, it hasn’t been the trio of Remy Martin, Jalen Coleman-Lands or Joseph Yesufu that’s done much of anything to propel the team to a 10-2 SU conference record. Instead, it’s been National Player of the Year candidate Ochai Agbaji (19.9 PPG) along with other holdovers Christian Braun (15.3 PPG), Jalen Wilson (10.5 PPG) and David McCormack (9.4 PPG). Currently ranking out as the No. 6 team in the land per KenPom.com, the Jayhawks bring it at both ends of the floor with it scoring just under 80 points per game (No. 22) and backing it up with the No. 37 ranked defensive efficiency. It’ll split its final six games both at home and on the road starting this Saturday with a trip to Morgantown. Their back-to-back road games at Baylor and TCU will likely decide the Big 12 regular season title. Should it sweep the season rivalry from the Bears, the Horny Toads likely still won’t have a shot to win the regular season title with COVID royally screwing up its schedule. Get past those tests or earn a split, and KU will cash in as the rightful chalks they are!
Underdog to Bet: Texas Tech Red Raiders +1000
I wouldn’t blame you if you took a shot with the Bears instead. There’s still a ton of talent on Scott Drew’s squad even with all the injuries. That being said, Baylor simply just doesn’t resemble the team that steamrolled its way to the title last season. Seemingly playing with a chip on its shoulder all year long due to its former coach jumping ship for another conference rival in the same state, the Red Raiders are a dangerous team that really hasn’t skipped a beat under Mark Adams’ watch. Texas Tech chimes in with an 8-4 SU record that’s incurred just one loss in its last five games; a surprising 70-55 thumping at the hands of Oklahoma. Armed with the nation’s No. 17 ranked scoring defense that concedes just over 60 points per game that also ranks No. 14 at forcing turnovers, the defense is still alive and well in Lubbock. But does it have enough offensive firepower to get over the hump and win a second Big 12 regular season title? Well, it’s already earned a split with Kansas and has an opportunity to sweep Baylor on Wednesday night. After that, it’s got what’s likely to be another emotional matchup with Texas followed by a revenge bout with OU. That’s a hellacious schedule if you ask me! With it already two games back in the loss column, a few more would make it impossible to catch the Jayhawks. Crazier things have happened though…
Longshot to Bet: Texas Longhorns +3000
The Longhorns have been one of the toughest teams for CBB bettors to get a handle on in Chris Beard’s first go-round overlooking the program. Owners of just a 7-5 SU record in Big 12 play heading into Tuesday’s rematch with an Oklahoma team that served as one of its prior triumphs, the Horns seemingly haven’t been able to put it all together. That however could be changing as I type with the team logging wins in five of its last seven games to get its regular season title aspirations off life support. That being said, the team has been nothing if not hot garbage on the road where it stands 2-4 SU in Big 12 play with losses incurred against Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Texas Tech and most recently Baylor. Guess what? Three of its final six games will be played away from the Frank C. Erwin Jr. Center against the aforementioned Sooners, West Virginia and Kansas. That means home games must be won at all costs against Texas Tech, TCU and Baylor to have any legitimate shot. But if it can continue forcing turnovers (No. 7), hitting the offensive glass (No. 43), putting opponents to sleep with the country’s No. 346 tempo rating all while playing lockdown defense (No. 10), it can win a majority of those games and cash a huge ticket. For it to occur, Marcus Carr must revert back to his Minnesota version and Timmy Allen must continue balling out!
