However, Notre Dame got the money in a 27-17 win with the game failing to clear the total. As a result, head coach Curt Cignetti and his Hoosiers saw their epic Cinderella season come to an end. Betting on College Football – Indiana +7.5 vs. Notre Dame and Over 51
It had been since January 1, 1994, that Notre Dame had won a major postseason game before Friday night when the Fighting Irish used a record-setting run by Jeremiyah Love early to propel themselves to a First Round College Football Playoff victory.
Notre Dame’s win was similar to the majority of its season: It did not overwhelm the Hoosiers offensively but simply suffocated them defensively.
It was a fitting end for Xavier Watts’s career at Notre Dame Stadium. The senior made a huge play early, intercepting Indiana’s Kurtis Rourke at the Notre Dame two-yard line on Indiana’s second possession. One play later, Jeremiyah Love dashed 98 yards to give the Irish the game’s first lead.
Watts was outstanding throughout the night. He was around the ball like he typically is and finished with several key tackles. The interception was his 15th takeaway over the last two seasons.
Jeremiyah Love’s 98-yard touchdown run right after the Watts interception gave Notre Dame a lead it would never surrender.

On Friday, December 20, 2024, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will host the Indiana Hoosiers at Notre Dame Stadium in Notre Dame, IN. Kickoff time is set for 8 p.m. ET, and television coverage will be on ABC and ESPN.
Last game, the Indiana Hoosiers won 66-0 against the Purdue Boilermakers as 29-point home favorites. The game went over the total of 56.5. Indiana has a record of 11-1 straight up, 9-3 against the spread, and 9-3 over/under the total. Indiana ranks 24th for total offense, 51st for passing, 51st for rushing, and 2nd for scoring. Defensively, they rank 2nd overall, 9th against the pass, 1st against the rush, and 6th for points allowed. Also, Indiana ranks 4th for fewest turnovers lost and 18th for takeaways.
Last game, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish won 49-35 against the USC Trojans as 7-point road favorites. The game went over the total of 52.5. Notre Dame has a record of 11-1 straight up, 10-2 against the spread, and 7-5 over/under the total. Notre Dame ranks 42nd for total offense, 101st for passing, 10th for rushing, and 4th for scoring. Defensively, they rank 10th overall, 4th against the pass, 52nd against the rush, and 3rd for points allowed. Also, Notre Dame ranks 28th for fewest turnovers lost and 5th for takeaways.
The Indiana Hoosiers are one of the 2024 season’s great Cinderella stories. The Hoosiers finished their 2023 season 3-9, with just one Big Ten conference victory on their record. This season, they went undefeated for almost the entire year, mowing down opponents and proving they belonged with the more traditional Big Boys of the conference, including newcomers like Washington.
In the end, their only loss was to a then-second-ranked Ohio State team, which knocked them out of the Big Ten Conference championship. Then, during rivalry week, Ohio State lost in a stunning upset against Michigan, leaving Indiana with the third-best record in the conference, behind Penn State and Oregon. That was good enough to get them into the Playoffs, where they are the tenth seed in the 12-team field.
As for Notre Dame, because they’re an independent school, they didn’t get to compete for a conference title. What they did do, following a Week 2 upset loss to Northern Illinois, was shape up and prove they belonged. Following that loss, the Irish won 10 straight games, including convincing victories over ranked opponents like Louisville, Navy, and Army. They closed out November with a convincing road win against rival USC and finished the season with one of the best records in college football. That was more than enough to earn a spot in the playoff, where they’re seeded seventh.
This is going to be a very interesting matchup for a lot of reasons. For one, it’s a cross-Indiana battle between two teams who don’t necessarily play each other very much, so there’s a certain rivalry component. For another, it’s a battle between two of the best defenses in college football. At the end of the regular season, Notre Dame was ranked third in terms of points allowed, while Indiana was ranked sixth.
It’ll be an uphill battle for the Hoosiers, but if they can get used to the environment, it’s anyone’s game. Indiana offers more value as a quality road dog getting an enhanced price.
