June 12, 2024The College World Series is down to the final eight teams with action in Omaha beginning on Friday. The Tennessee Volunteers are the No. 1 overall seed and a slight favorite in College World Series odds at BetMGM. Joining Tennessee in Omaha are Texas A&M, Kentucky, North Carolina, Florida State, Virginia, NC State and Florida. The College World Series in Omaha will be a double-elimination bracket in the NCAA baseball tournament. Friday and Saturday’s opening games have North Carolina vs. Virginia, Tennessee vs. Florida State, Kentucky vs. NC State and Texas A&M vs. Florida. Of the eight teams, two have previously won a title, Florida and Virginia. Let’s look at College World Series odds and College World Series picks.

Favorites
The Tennessee Volunteers will look to become the first overall No. 1 seed to win the College World Series since Miami in 1999. The Volunteers are loaded on offense, as they lead the nation with 173 home runs, 22 more than any other team. The weakness for Tennessee could be the pitching staff that does not have a marquee No. 1 starter. Drew Beam is their top pitcher but he has actually allowed more hits than innings pitched. Tennessee has a lot of pitching options and head coach Tony Vitello will need them. The Texas A&M Aggies are right behind Tennessee in College World Series odds. They also boast a powerful offense that was on display in the regional against Oregon when they scored a lot of runs.
Darkhorses
The Kentucky Wildcats are in the College World Series for the first time. They finished second in the last college baseball poll of the season, so they are a team to reckon with. North Carolina is back in the CWS for the first time since 2018. The Tar Heels won the ACC this season and they took out West Virginia in the super regionals. Florida State always seems to make the CWS and yet they never win it. They have played in 23 College World Series and have never won it all.
Longshots
The three teams with double-digit odds are Virginia, Florida and NC State. It would take something very unexpected for one of these three teams to win the title.
College World Series Pick
I think A&M is the team to target, as I am concerned about Tennessee’s pitching staff. I also think that Kentucky is a team that can make some noise and get to the final. I think A&M and Kentucky are the two teams to take in terms of College World Series picks.
