October 25, 2023The rowdiest PGA Tour event of the year is held at TPC Scottsdale, which now has a retail sportsbook on-site. Following a recent ribbon-cutting, the DraftKings Sportsbook at TPC Scottsdale in Arizona opened to the public. With its formal launch, the sportsbook becomes the first retail betting establishment at a PGA Tour event location. Every year, TPC Scottsdale hosts the WM Phoenix Open, which fosters boisterous crowd conduct unlike found at other PGA Tour locations. The PGA Tour’s vice president of gaming, Scott Warfield, stated last week at the G2E conference in Las Vegas, “It will add to the allure of that event.”
The facility is open seven days a week, year-round, although tournament weeks may see a spike in activity. All customers are welcome to the restaurant and patio, but only adults over 21 are permitted in the sportsbook’s gambling area. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan stated in a news release, “The DraftKings Sportsbook at TPC Scottsdale promises to be a year-round destination where we look forward to delivering unforgettable experiences to our fans.” The sportsbook has six wagering ticket windows, 3,400 square feet of video walls, and 32 betting kiosks. A dining area and an indoor-outdoor bar area are also included. The building measures 13,000 square feet in total.
The menu, created by Executive Chef Matthew O’Harris, includes pizza, street tacos, wings, salads, sandwiches, and sandwiches. Craft cocktails and regional beers are available as drink options. The DK Burger comes on brioche bread with a big beef patty, cheddar cheese, gem lettuce, onion, tomato, pickle, and DK sauce. A side order of seasoned fries is included.
The CEO and co-founder of DraftKings, Jason Robins, stated in a press release, “It’s an exciting day and we’re thrilled to celebrate the opening of the DraftKings Sportsbook at TPC Scottsdale, a location that showcases the special collaboration between DraftKings and the PGA TOUR while featuring a number of customer-centric amenities true to the DraftKings brand. We are excited to welcome both locals and guests to enjoy the unparalleled service and dining experience at DraftKings in a new and exciting way.”
Arizona has a thriving sports betting industry, with over a dozen mobile sportsbooks operating there. In Arizona, there are mobile sportsbooks run by well-known national platforms including BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, and FanDuel. Furthermore, all four of those operators have retail locations in the state thanks to significant professional sports teams and arenas. The Arizona Cardinals’ home stadium, State Farm Stadium, is home to BetMGM’s retail sportsbook. The 17,000 square foot building housed the NFL’s first sportsbook to open. At Arizona Diamondbacks’ home field, Chase Field, Caesars Sportsbook runs a retail sportsbook. In mid-2022, this facility opened. The NBA’s Phoenix Suns and WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury are housed in the Footprint Center, which is also home to FanDuel’s retail sportsbook.
Arizona is yet another state where online sports betting has proven to be not only popular, but profitable for online sportsbooks.
