Two of the most popular online sportsbooks for bettors in the United States are DraftKings and BetMGM. Both of these sportsbooks are available in many of the same states. DraftKings is licensed in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia, while BetMGM is licensed in Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada, New Jersey, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. Let’s compare the DraftKings Sportsbook to the BetMGM Sportsbook.
Welcome Bonus
We may as well start at the beginning with this comparison and that means looking at the Welcome Bonus. DraftKings has a Deposit Bonus up to $1,000, while BetMGM offers a $600 Risk-Free Bet.
The DraftKings bonus sounds better, but keep in mind that the bonus has rollover requirements. The rollover requirements can vary but oftentimes the rollover requirement will be 25X and that means to get your $1,000 you will have to have wagered $25,000.
The BetMGM Risk-Free bet is a better deal, but you only get up to $600. For example, if you bet $600 and win then the promotion is over and you win your $600. If you lose, the $600 is refunded in four $150 free bets.
Most people will choose to get a chance at $600 instead of having to wager a huge amount to get $1,000. The edge in the Welcome Bonus goes to BetMGM.
Deposits and Withdrawals
DraftKings and BetMGM have a number of different deposit and withdrawal choices. Each sportsbook gives you debit/credit card choices, PayPal and bank transfer options. BetMGM requires a deposit of $10, while DraftKings has a minimum deposit of $5.
DraftKings has just four options for withdrawals, while BetMGM has six withdrawal options. DraftKings has withdrawal options for checks, PayPal, e-check and cash. BetMGM has checks, PayPal, e-check, Skrill, prepaid cards and cash.
The edge in terms of deposit and withdrawal choices goes to BetMGM.
Odds
When you look at sportsbook odds there are a lot of things to consider. Both sportsbook offer all of the major sports and DraftKings has a slight edge in terms of the number of sports they offer. When it comes to odds it is all about what sport you want to wager on and what options you prefer. DraftKings and BetMGM have plenty of options on the board and each is solid in terms of odds.
Bet Types
DraftKings is one of the best sportsbooks for bet types. There is no question that the DraftKings Sportsbook stands out when it comes to bet types. There are countless bets available on nearly every game. Not only does DraftKings offer a plethora of bets, they also offer contests and of course, fantasy sports. DraftKings also has cash-out features and daily odds boosts.
BetMGM can’t match DraftKings for sheer number of bets available, but they do have the cash-out feature and they also offer the Edit My Bet feature. That feature is where you can change a straight bet or parlay. You might want to add a parlay to your existing bet and BetMGM gives you that option with the Edit My Bet feature.
While BetMGM does have an interesting feature in the Edit My Bet option, there is no question that DraftKings has more betting options and they get the edge in Bet Types.
Live Betting
DraftKings is an excellent sportsbook for live betting. They have a wide variety of choices including prop bets, instant bets and they also offer a live match tracker and they have live scores. BetMGM offers live betting choices, but they don’t have a lot of live prop bet choices.
The edge in live betting definitely goes to DraftKings, as they have more live betting options available on a daily basis than does BetMGM.
Mobile App
DraftKings and BetMGM have good mobile apps. DraftKings has a very good menu on their mobile app which makes placing bets easy. Checking bets is also easy and navigation is excellent. If you want to look at trends and stats then DraftKings is for you. They have outstanding statistics on their mobile app.
The BetMGM app is solid and placing bets is easy. They have good mini-menus and you don’t get a ton of prompts to play casino games. It is tough to get customer support on the mobile app, so that is a negative.
The mobile app edge has to go to DraftKings as they have more options and a menu that is extremely easy to navigate.
Customer Service
DraftKings has email and live chat customer service, while BetMGM has email, live chat and phone customer service. BetMGM has the edge in terms of customer service because they offer phone support, while DraftKings does not.
Winner – DraftKings Sportsbook
It is close, but the edge for DraftKings over BetMGM is due to their volume of bet types offered and live betting menu. Sports gamblers want as many betting choices as possible and it is hard to argue with all of the options on the board at the DraftKings Sportsbook. BetMGM does have some advantages in terms of banking options and customer service, but most bettors are more concerned with how many betting choices they have and for that reason, DraftKings gets the edge. It is also important to remember that you can open an account at both sportsbooks and get the best of both worlds.
