Farmers Insurance Open Matchup Picks

The PGA Tour stays in Southern California this week for the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines just outside of San Diego. Many of the world’s best players will be in action, including the red-hot Jon Rahm who won last week at The American Express. Unlike last week where scoring was very low, players will get a much tougher test this week on the North and South Courses at Torrey Pines. Jon Rahm is listed as the betting favorite at BetRivers. I am coming off a very nice 4-0-1 week with the matchups at The American Express. Let’s look at Farmers Insurance Open matchup picks.

Schauffele, Xander +170 vs. Rahm, Jon

I know it is risky to go against Rahm right now, as he is the hottest player in the world, but this price is ridiculous. Schauffele is a La Jolla native and he has played well at Torrey Pines in the past, as he tied for 2^nd last year in this event and he tied for 7^th in the U.S. Open. He is in good form, as he tied for 3^rd last week. I’ll take Schauffele at the big plus price.

Zalatoris, Will -140 vs. Kim, Si Woo

Zalatoris nearly won this event a year ago and he tied for 7^th in 2021. He is in good form since returning from a back injury with all eight of his rounds under 70. I know Kim has a win this season, but I still think Zalatoris is the better player and I don’t think it is close. I’ll take Zalatoris in this matchup.

Montgomery, Taylor -167 vs. Kim, Si Woo

I am going against Kim again in this matchup and taking Montgomery. He tied for 11^th in this event a year ago with Kim and there is no arguing the form of Montgomery this season as he has made all nine cuts and he has eight top 15 finishes. I’ll lay the price and take Montgomery in this matchup.

Shelton, Robby +110 vs. Clark, Wyndham

A player who is going under the radar a bit is Shelton who is coming off a tie for 6^th last week at The American Express. He has five top 25 finishes already this season. He also finished in a tie for 16^th in this event two years ago. I’ll take him at the plus price in this matchup.

Buckley, Hayden -114 vs. List, Luke

I’ll go against the defending champion in this matchup. Did you know that since his win in this event a year ago, List has missed the cut in 14 of his 27 starts? Buckley is off to a nice start this season and he may be a bit undervalued. I’ll lay the small price and take Buckley in this matchup.
