Our same game parlay of Calgary and under never had a chance on Saturday, November 30^th, as the Penguins rolled to a 6-2 win. Calgary had been playing well leading up to this game but they were never competitive in this Saturday contest. Pittsburgh has struggled for most of the season but for at least one game, they had everything going their way. The game looked like it would go under the total, as the Penguins led 3-0 after the second period but the teams exploded for five goals in the third period. In Saturday night’s 6-2 victory over the Calgary Flames, Michael Bunting and Kris Letang each contributed two assists and a power-play goal. Pittsburgh has scored goals with the man advantage in six of its previous eight games, including one on the power play from Philip Tomasino. With his tenth goal of the year, Rickard Rakell scored for the third straight game. Blake Lizotte and Anthony Beauvillier also scored for the Penguins, while Sidney Crosby added an assist to extend his point run to four games. This season, the Flames have only won three of their thirteen away games. For Calgary, Dan Vladar stopped 37 shots. Martin Pospisil of Calgary struck a post in the opening five minutes of play and it was downhill from there. Pittsburgh goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic made a crisp pad save without his stick in the second period and produced a highlight-reel glove save on Rasmus Andersson later in the period.

Calgary has now lost four straight games. Before their current slump, the Flames had won five of six games and four in a row. For the first time this season, Pittsburgh has won three games in a row. The Penguins had not won three straight games since a four-game streak in April. Before its current run, Pittsburgh had dropped eight of their last ten.

Is there anything to like about the Penguins right now? Mike Sullivan is a good NHL head coach but it is past time for the Penguins to go in another direction. Sullivan would be better off with another team and Pittsburgh needs a new voice behind the bench. They also need more talent. They still have Sidney Crosby who continues to play at a high level but they are still stuck with the overrated Evgeni Malkin and Erik Karlsson. As long as Pittsburgh has those two players in the lineup they are going to struggle more often than not, especially on defense. I’ll take the Flames to get the road win. I also can’t ignore the offensive struggles of both teams so I will also play the game to go under the total.
