With only six weeks left in the regular season, the NFL playoff race is in full swing. The defending champion Tampa Bay Bucs are on pace to make a run at a second straight title but there are still obstacles standing in their way.
The NFC is full of top tier teams this year as Green Bay, Dallas, and Arizona try to prevent Tom Brady from making yet another Super Bowl appearance.
In the AFC, things are a bit more competitive. Three of the four divisions are separated by a single game or less with the AFC West having four teams with six wins or more. The Chiefs are trying their best to repeat as conference champs but one slip up could knock them out of the playoffs completely.

Who’s Hot?
New England Patriots
The Patriots are winners of their last six games, leapfrogging Buffalo as the top team in the AFC East standings. In this recent streak the Pats have been downright dominant, winning five of six contests by 16 points or more. That includes a 41-point blowout of the Jets, a 38-point demolition of Cleveland, a 25-point shutout of Atlanta, and last week’s 23-point beatdown of the Titans.
New England has been an NFL best bet over the course of this winning streak, covering in all six outings. Next up is a meeting with the Bills where the Patriots enter as three-point underdogs according to SugarHouse sportsbook.
Washington Football Team
Washington has paid dividends to money line bettors over the last three weeks of the season, winning outright as underdogs three straight times. That includes a 29-19 win over Tampa Bay as 10-point ‘dogs. The defense is playing lights out having kept three of their last four foes from reaching 20 points.
Washington took down Seattle on Monday night to move to 5-6 on the season with a 17-15 win. With Dallas in a midseason funk, things could start to get interesting in the NFC East race.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers have finally found their groove. After struggling with injuries to start the season, San Fran has reeled off four wins in their last five tries. That includes impressive wins over the Rams and Vikings. The offense is beginning to light up the scoreboard, notching 30 points or more in all four of those wins.
The 49ers have now moved to 6-5 on the season and find themselves squarely in the playoff picture. Following a 2-4 start, San Francisco now holds +4000 odds to win the Super Bowl at SugarHouse sportsbook, the sixth-best odds of any NFC team.
Who’s Cold?
New Orleans Saints
The Saints have lost four in a row to fall to 5-6 on the regular season. That recent skid has seen them drop to three games back of the Bucs in the NFC South standings. Quarterback play has been an issue and it looks as though New Orleans will try out a third option under center on Thursday. Taysom Hill looks to make his first start at QB with Trevor Siemian and Jameis Winston on the sidelines.
Defense has been an even bigger problem as the Saints have surrendered an average of more than 30 points per game over this losing streak. With Dallas coming to town this week, things don’t get any easier. The Cowboys enter as 4.5-point favorites at SugarHouse sportsbook.
Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks are having difficulty scoring. Since Russell Wilson’s return three weeks ago, the offense has posted outputs of 0, 13, and 15 points. Not surprisingly, they’ve lost all three. The Seahawks have also gone 0-3 against the spread in that time despite entering two of those contests as favorites.
With the team sitting at just 3-8 on the year, it looks as though their playoff hopes are all but done.
Los Angeles Rams
The Rams are losers of three straight following a 7-1 start to the season. A once feared defense has allowed nearly 32 points per game during that skid. LA has not been kind to bettors of late, failing to cover in their last five contests.
Next up is a meeting with Jacksonville that sees the Rams open as a 13-point favorite. With the way they’re playing now, it’s hard to trust LA covering that two-score spread.
