April 9, 2024World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is favored to win the Masters which begins on Thursday at Augusta National. Scheffler has won two of this last three starts overall and he has never finished outside the top 20 in his previous Masters tournaments. He is listed with odds of +375 at Caesars, with Rory McIlroy a distant second choice at odds of +1000. Masters defending champion Jon Rahm is third in the betting odds at +1100, while Brooks Koepka is next at +1200. Other than Scheffler winning a couple of times as the favorite, longshots have been winning on the PGA Tour on a regular basis. Last week it was Akshay Bhatia winning at odds of 65-1. Let’s look at Masters odds and picks.

Venue: Augusta National is one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world. It has been lengthened to 7,555 yards and is a par 72. The course has gotten tougher recently and last year it was 6th of 49 courses on the PGA Tour and two years ago it ranked third most-difficult. Experience on this course is critical, as no first-timer at Augusta has won since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979.
Last Year: Jon Rahm won last year’s Masters, coming from behind to catch Brooks Koepka. Rahm was four shots back to start the day but he shot a final-round 69 to beat Koepka and Phil Mickelson by four shots. Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed and Russell Henley tied for fourth.

Favorite
Scottie Scheffler +375
Golf betting favorites are a bad bet, but one of the few golfers that has won as the betting favorite this year is Scheffler. That begin said, Masters odds on Scheffler are ridiculously low. I like Scheffler’s game but there is no question he still has some issues with his putting. He may win anyway, but I am definitely not taking him against the best field in golf at this low number.
Golf Picks
Brooks Koepka +1200
I think you can throw out how Koepka has played recently and just look at his play in Majors which is always very good. Koepka is always extremely focused for big events and he really wants to add the Masters to his Major wins. Tough conditions definitely won’t deter Koepka and I expect him to be in the mix this week.
Xander Schauffele +1400
There is no question that Schauffele has the talent to win the Masters or any other major for that matter. He plays well but too often he falls short. Is this the week for him to finally break through? It could be, as he is playing well and he has done well at Augusta with a 2nd in 2019 a 3rd in 2021 and a 10th place finish last year. I’ll take Schauffele to get his first major win.
Hideki Matsuyama +1800
Matsuyama won the Genesis in February and he continues to play well, as he was in the mix last week in Texas. He ranks highly in a number of key categories and he has played well in wet and windy conditions in the past and it definitely will be windy for this year’s Masters.
Tony Finau +3300
Finau has been playing well and he has done well at Augusta with a 10th in 2018 and a 5th in 2019. He also finished 10th two years ago. Finau finished in a tie for 2nd at the Houston Open and there is no question that Finau is capable of winning against a strong field.
Shane Lowry +3500
Lowry is a player who does well in tough conditions and when it is windy. He comes in playing well as he finished 4th at the Cognizant Classic, 3rd at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and 19th at the Players Championship. He won the Open in 2019 when conditions were tough and he could contend this week.
Patrick Reed +7500
Reed has started to play better lately on the LIV Tour and we know he can play well at Augusta. He plays well when the pressure is the highest and he is peaking at the right time. We have seen longshots win a lot this season and a win by Reed would not be a surprise.

[…] odds of just over 3-1. The better option is to take another golfer. I recommended Schauffele in the odds preview and his odds are not much different without Scheffler, as we get him at 12-1 in Masters odds. Maybe […]
