Though my primary handicap was a factor in Ohio State staying competitive, their ability to force turnovers ultimately wasn’t enough. While the Buckeyes outscored the Wolverines 17-12 on points off 12 forced turnovers, the home team simply had no answer for the twin tower combo of Goldin and Wolf who scored 43 percent of the Maize and Blue’s points. With both squads shooting over 45% from the field , combining for 16 makes from beyond the arc, and attempting 44 combined free throws, the under never stood a chance. The Buckeyes also did a tremendous job cleaning the glass outboarding the Huskies 34-22 to coast to their tenth win in front of the hometown faithful.

However, this rivalry game is likely to be decided by turnovers, and the Michigan Wolverines struggle mightily in that area, ranking 328th in turnover percentage exacerbated by their up-tempo pace (52nd per KenPom) and lack of quality ball handlers. Ohio State, on the other hand, takes much better care of the ball (56th) while also excelling in three-point shooting (16th) and perimeter defense (10th). With Ohio State sorely in need of adding another Quad 1 win to the resume, I expect Ohio State to go all-out to defend their court in a lower-scoring game than the total suggests.
