We hammered out a fourth straight day in the black with last Friday’s MLB parlay picks after cashing four of the six overall recommendations. Though things got away from Tarik Skubal and the Detroit Tigers late, the current AL Cy Young Award favorite at BetMGM Sportsbook still went on to exceed his K prop even though the five allowed earned runs were the most surrendered all baseball betting season long. We made up for it in the nightcap in Anaheim where the Mets thrashed Tyler Anderson as expected to cash all three legs of the SGP. Oakland Athletics vs. Toronto Blue Jays MLB Same Game Parlay:

The Blue Jays being a bona fide contender in the AL East year in and year out is all but a distant memory now that the team has put forth back-to-back disappointing campaigns. Bringing up the rear of the division and sitting 12-games out in the AL wild-card race, the dirt has already been poured upon the 2024 baseball betting season. Also taking on water to the point of capsizing has been Jose Berrios who enters start No. 24 sitting 9-9 with a 4.11 ERA that’s backed by an even worse 5.24 FIP amounting to the highest output 10 years ago in his rookie campaign. The righty has been tagged for at least six hits and 3 ER in four of his last five starts, and he’ll have his hands full against a young up-and-coming A’s lineup batting .255 against right-handed pitching since July 1 with a .319 OBP (#12) and .461 OPS (#7).

Oakland was competitive in a series defeat to the Dodgers last weekend. Since dropping two of three in Boston, Brent Rooker and his mates stand 11-7 versus the closing MLB odds ($786) the 18 times they stepped between the lines. It also gets the added advantage of throwing an unknown at the Blue Jays in the form of Mitch Spence who surprised me in his last start against Los Angeles. The righty came up an out short of logging the quality start with 6 K after only allowing three hits and 1 ER. If he can mimic the same cutter success against the Blue Jays that he exhibited against the Dodgers, Oakland will win this game, and likely do so running away as poorly Berrios has been pitching.

Detroit Tigers vs. San Francisco Giants MLB Same Game Parlay:

The wheels look to have fallen off the Tigers’ aspirations of making a bid to play in the postseason. Since taking two of three from the disappointing Blue Jays back on July 21, Detroit has managed four wins in their last 13 tries and dropped all four series played against the division rival Guardians, Twins, and Royals. After going into Seattle to kick off the week, the road trip will continue in San Francisco where A.J. Hinch’s troops will be forced to run up against a resurgent Giants squad looking to make a run at acquiring one of the National League’s three wild-card bids. Sitting 4.5-games out of the third and final seed at the time of this writing, I expect San Francisco to eat into that deficit this week with series scheduled on the road in Washington before heading home for this interleague set.

I faded Robbie Ray on the baseball betting lines in his second start since returning from the IL against the A’s and was paid out for doing so. He followed that forgettable showing up by tossing five innings of 2 ER ball at the Reds with 9 K in the GAB. The southpaw has already notched 21 K through 14.1 combined innings letting it be known that the strikeout hasn’t escaped him following Tommy John surgery. Detroit has gone down on strikes at a 23.2% overall clip (#20) and at a 25.7% rate (#19) when stepping into the box against left-handers. It’s down to 23.6% since July 1, but the lineup will still be without Riley Greene’s plate presence for the foreseeable future. This is gonna be like shooting fish in a barrel for the former Cy Young Award winner!
