June 26, 2024Rocket Mortgage Classic Matchup Picks
June 26, 2024Another poor showing went down with my MLB parlay picks last Friday after only managing to cash two of seven made recommendations. Though Tampa Bay won the game and cashed on the moneyline in the first five innings, Ryan Pepiot only lasted 3.1 innings and failed to go over his K prop because of a bloated pitch count due to issuing four walks. Red hot Boston dropped the opener in Cincinnati where their bats lied dormant against Andrew Abbott who racked up a season-high 10 K. Then the Brewers coughed up a 4-1 fifth inning lead and fell 9-5 against the Padres. Thankfully, Milwaukee was able to exceed its team total in the defeat. My horses failed to show heading into last weekend. Fingers crossed they do and I can recoup some of those losses over at BetMGM Sportsbook this time around – SLAM YOUR MAN!!

Houston Astros vs. New York Mets MLB Same Game Parlay:
The Astros and Mets are carbon copies of one another right now. Not too long ago, Houston found itself in the bottom of the AL West standings without a leg to stand on. But since dropping three of four at Seattle to close out the month of May, Joe Espada’s troops have been playing with their hair on fire toppling the closing MLB odds in 14 of 21 played games throughout the month of June; good for a $534 return on investment. While New York is likely never going to catch the Phillies atop the NL East standings, its resurgence began at the tail end of May and has lasted till the end of June with Francisco Lindor and his mates coming out triumphant in all but six of their last 22 played games ($1039). In doing so, the Mets currently sit just a game out in the NL wild-card hunt.
The opener of this intriguing three-game set will have right-hander Ronel Blanco squaring off against southpaw Jose Quintana. The former has been locked in for the Astros throughout the month of June in going 3-1 with a 2.10 ERA and 22:9 K/BB ratio. He just tossed seven innings of 1 ER ball at home against the Orioles to log a third straight quality start. I expect more good fortune from the righty in this spot considering he’s been at his best away from Minute Maid throwing to a 1.98 ERA and .172 batting average against. Houston stands 4-1 in his five made road starts!
It’s tough for me to grapple with due to how big a bust Jose Quintana proved to be when my Cubs ponied up a king’s ransom to acquire his services years back, and the lefty failing miserably to live up to expectations throughout his stay on the Northside. Regardless, Quintana has been a revelation recently logging quality showings in four of his last six starts and allowing just 7 ER through 20 June innings. New York has come out on the right side of the scoreboard in each of his last three starts with the lefty hitting all his spots. Look for both starters to dominate ultimately leading to a low scoring affair.

Oakland A’s vs. Arizona Diamondbacks MLB Same Game Parlay:
I haven’t the faintest clue who will toe the bump for the host Diamondbacks in the opener of this three-game set against the A’s. It doesn’t matter. I want as many pieces of the D’backs offense as I can get with J.P. Sears set to get the starting nod for the 17th time this baseball betting season. I made the mistake of taking a flier on the left-hander in his last start at home against the Twins thinking he’d put forth a solid showing in front of the hometown faithful much like he did the previous five times. So, I recommended hitting the over of his 16.5 out prop at BetMGM. Not so fast my friend! The lefty managed to log four outs before getting hooked after conceding nine hits (1 HR) and 8 ER with a lone strikeout tally.
Arizona has been average against right-handed pitching (No. 15), but has been dominant against LHP in raking southpaws to the tune of a .275 batting average (#3) and .763 OPS (#6). It’s amounted to 5.4 runs scored per game (#2) and the over cashing in on the baseball betting odds on 16 of 28 occasions with an average of 10 runs scored per game. If Sears’ sweeper and changeup are missing the mark, you can bet your bottom dollar Zona smacks his other offerings that include the 4-seamer, sinker, and slider which the Snakes possess some eye-opening run values against per Baseball Savant. Look for the home team to hang a crooked number, and for lefty killer Ketel Marte to lead the charge!
