July 14, 2023
We cashed each of Sunday’s three-leg MLB Same Game Parlays at PointsBet Sportsbook last week to head into the All-Star break with a head of steam! The Rays offense gave Zac Eflin the run support needed to allow Tampa Bay to withstand getting swept at home by the Braves. The Phillies failed to get the best of Jesus Luzardo and the Fish in their own house, while Joe Musgrove and the Padres closed things out with a big win over Max Scherzer and the Mets. Let’s close the week in the green with some more parlay pick winners – SLAM YOUR MAN!!

Miami Marlins vs. Baltimore Orioles
We rode Braxton Miller and the Fish on Saturday, but will reverse course in the finale with the belief that the series will be undecided heading into this tilt. The Marlins had yet to announce their starter at the time of this writing, but whoever they end up marching out won’t prevent me from backing the O’s and Kyle Bradish with the righty proving to be a boon to the team’s overall record anytime he toes the Camden Yards bump. Baltimore is 4-3 whenever he leads the charge at home where his ERA clocks in at a season-best 2.81 in allowing just 32 hits (5 HR) and 13 ER with a 31:9 K/BB ratio over 41.2 innings of work. He’s churned out a quality effort in four of his last five starts and would’ve done so in all five had he logged another inning. If it ends up being Jesus Luzardo, he’ll have his hands full with the Orioles raking LHP for 5.2 RPG (No. 8). Should it be Bryan Hoeing or Eury Perez, Cedric Mullins and co. will be just fine with the lineup owners of a .745 OPS against RHP. Either way, the home team will own the advantage both on the bump and at the dish.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Cincinnati Reds
We backed Ashcraft and the Reds in the opener of this pivotal three-game set with the Brewers, and will get involved in the finale as well. I’m not exactly sure what will happen in the second game with the unpredictable Freddy Peralta on the hill to oppose Andrew Abbott who Milwaukee hit around pretty good when opposing him last week. As it is, the Reds will either be looking to bust out the brooms or take home the finale to win the series and hold onto their lead atop the division standings. For that to occur, Joey Votto and his mates will have to hang a crooked number since I think Milwaukee will do just that running up against Ben Lively for the second time in just seven days. Adrian Houser continues to live on the edge serving up 10.9 hits and 3.0 walks per nine innings. Even so, the righty has amassed a 3-2 record that’s been anchored by a fictitious 3.68 ERA. With his FIP clocking in at 4.27, I think it’s only a matter of time until the regression monster pays him a visit. That could be as early as this game in the GAB where he’s the owner of a 5.36 ERA and 1.47 WHIP through nine career starts.

Houston Astros vs. Los Angeles Angels
I was set on hammering the over of Cristian Javier’s final start before the break, but Dusty Baker decided to give him some extra rest and push his start back. It made perfect sense considering the righty had been ripped for 21 hits (4 HR) and 20 ER in his prior three starts that saw him combine for a paltry 10.2 innings. He’ll enter this one having not pitched in a live game setting since July 3, and I think he’ll have his work cut out for him against Shohei Ohtani and co. who must win this series at all costs if it’s to have any say in punching a playoff ticket down the road. For that to occur, I believe the Angels will need to outslug their hated rivals with Tyler Anderson and his bloated 5.68 ERA set to toe the bump in the ESPN Sunday nighter. The lefty hasn’t provided much in the way of support recently in failing to see the sixth inning in three of his last four starts. He’s served up at least 3 ER in four of his last six starts, and owns a 4.94 ERA at home that only gets worse when pitching under the lights (5.43 ERA). Houston and its 5.3 runs scored per game against LHP will be a tall task for the southpaw to overcome.
