Week 1 College Football Total Best Bets
August 31, 2023MLB Same Game Parlay Picks, Odds & Predictions – Tuesday, September 5
September 4, 2023This is the best time of the year to be a sports fan. Baseball is entering the stretch run after a long season, football and European soccer are just getting started, and basketball and hockey are just around the corner. I made my first two MLB Same Game Parlays earlier this week too, and I split those to make a nice little profit on Wednesday night.
Hunter Greene looked sharp over 5.1 innings, leading the Cincinnati Reds to an upset win over the San Francisco Giants. As I predicted in my preview, Greene put it together after two rough starts coming off the IL and allowed just four baserunners in a 4-1 win for the Reds. That MLB Parlay paid off at over 3-1, netting anyone that followed a nice chunk of change.
I nearly went 2-0 and nailed my other play too. I had the right read on the game between the Minnesota Twins and the Cleveland Guardians, but Minnesota didn’t score enough in nine innings and lost in extra frames. Sonny Gray was lights out and allowed just three hits and a walk in seven innings, and the Twins had a 2-0 lead going into the 8th inning. Unfortunately, the bullpen was unable to keep the lead, leading to the Twins losing in extra innings and costing me a very nice payday.
Anyways, that’s enough with the belly aching. Let’s look ahead to the future and make some money before the Labor Day holiday.

Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins
Josiah Gray vs. Sandy Alcantara
Reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara has not had a great season. Alcantara is 6-12 with a 1.21 WHIP and a 4.23 ERA. He posted an ERA north of 4.50 for the first four months of the season, and he has only started to turn it around lately. He was rocked by Washington when these teams met in mid-June, but I expect him to perform much better with Florida sitting at .500 and looking to sneak into the postseason.
Meanwhile, Josiah Gray is developing into a future front-end starter. Gray has taken his share of bumps over the last three years, but this has been his best season by a considerable margin. He hasn’t made batters swing and miss like they did against him last year, but there is a lot of swing and miss in Florida’s bats outside of Luis Arraez. I think he can strike out more than a batter an inning and make this a strong outing even though the Marlins will be too much in the end for both Gray and the Nats.

Cleveland Guardians vs. Tampa Bay Rays
Xzavion Curry vs. Aaron Civale
There’s no doubt that Aaron Civale will be fired up in this game. Civale spent the first five years of his MLB career with Cleveland, but he only had one solid season with the Guardians. He battled injuries during his time with the club and only threw 430 innings in five seasons.
Tampa Bay has become something of a home for broken pitchers over the last decade. The Rays have one of the best pitching specialists in the league, and they work hand in glove with an advanced stats team. That should help Civale in the long term, even though he has had some hiccups in his first five starts with the team.
The book might be out on Xzavion Curry. He has struck out two or fewer batters in three of his last four starts. Smith was rocked by Minnesota in his last start on Monday, allowing six hits and six earned runs in just two innings, and it was his second straight start of just two innings. His lone quality start over the past four weeks was against a Detroit team that struggles offensively, so this is a great spot to bet Tampa Bay on the road where the Rays could be an underdog by the MLB betting odds.
