June 12, 2024U.S. Open Matchup Picks
June 12, 2024It was a clean sweep for last Thursday’s MLB parlay picks! The night stated off great in the GAB where the Reds took the opener of the extended series with the Cubs by an 8-4 final count. Cincy’s bats got to Javier Assad as expected peppering him for 5 ER through 5.2 innings, and while Hunter Greene also gave up a 4 spot of ER to Chicago, he still managed to exceed his 17.5 pitching outs prop by going 6.2 innings. Garret Crochet ended up getting pushed back a day, but Tanner Houck went on to hold up his end of the bargain by only allowing three hits in his seven total innings of work. I was shocked he came out for the seventh with a 13-1 lead to allow us to cash the over of his 18.5 pitching outs prop! Let’s see if we can mimic the feat with some more parlay legs at Caesars Sportsbook starting early Thursday afternoon – SLAM YOUR MAN!!

Washington Nationals vs. Detroit Tigers MLB Same Game Parlay:
Don’t look now, but the Nats have clawed themselves into third place of the NL East and only sit 1.5-games out in the wild card race. Pretty insane for a club that entered the baseball betting season with a 66.5-game win total! Almost halfway there having already cashed in on the MLB odds 31 times, I’m expecting plenty more scratches in the win column moving forward as well as today with MacKenzie Gore set to toe the rubber in the finale of this three-game set with Detroit. We rode the left-hander in his last turn and came out a winner after he led Washington to the 7-3 dub by tossing five innings of 2 ER ball with 7 K to just topple his 6.5 K prop. The Nationals have come out on top in three of his last four starts of which he’s allowed a whopping 23 hits, but only allowed two or less ER on three occasions. He’s been at his absolute best on the road (2.28 ERA) and in day games (3.00 ERA), and gets the benefit of throwing at a Tigers offense batting a league-worst .172 over the last week.
Detroit has been pretty decent against 4-seamers per Baseball Savant with a number of its sticks possessing positive run values, but that hasn’t been the case against the slider and curve which Gore had working last time out against the Braves. Even taking that stinker against the Mets into account back on June 3, the Nats’ southpaw has racked up seven or more strikeouts in four of his last six starts. Detroit hasn’t been a stranger to going down on strikes (#22), and Gore looks to be in a groove and feeling it right now. I can’t and won’t say the same thing for Casey Mize who has failed to reach the sixth inning in each of his last four starts and amassed a grand total of 15.1 innings during that stretch. Another early exit is likely here with Washington averaging 4.3 runs per game over the last week against tougher opposition. That likely means the Tigers struggling bullpen will be called upon early, and that looks to be an omen considering it carries a 5.66 ERA over the last month!

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Boston Red Sox MLB Same Game Parlay:
Maybe the BoSox will be in a position to win this series, or maybe they won’t. Either way, I can’t help but get excited about the prospect of Tanner Houck squaring off against a red hot Aaron Nola in the finale of this three-game interleague set. The Red Sox’ righthander is putting forth a coming of age type campaign this season entering his fourteenth start 6-5 with a 1.91 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and .200 batting average against. Even more impressive is his 2.22 FIP with the righty only serving up 6.7 hits and allowing 0.2 home runs per nine innings. He’s allowed a grand total of one home run through 47.0 innings pitched in his home ball park, and that’s huge considering the Phillies have mashed the fifth most home runs in baseball (77). Philadelphia will also be without a number of crucial bats with J.T. Realmuto recently hitting the IL to join Brandon Marsh and Trea Turner.
Fading Philadelphia has proven to be a perilous venture this season with Bryce Harper and Co. owners of the best winning percentage in the game (.697). However, Houck has already stymied one of the most potent teams in the NL once this season after hurling six stellar innings at the Milwaukee Brewers to help lead the team to the impressive 2-1 win at the end of May. He’s also logged a win at home against the AL Central leading Cleveland Guardians. Many are targeting this start as his make or break moment with a bulk of his accrued stats coming against less than stellar opposition. I’m silencing that noise and foresee him rising to the occasion and going deep enough to put Boston in a position to close the series on a high. Que up that “Sweet Caroline” and let it rip!
