August 14, 2023Ohio Side Continues with Cincinnati Red Ink
August 14, 2023We ended up splitting our MLB same game parlays at BetRivers Sportsbook last Tuesday night. While the Cubs earned the hard-fought 3-2 win over the Mets, they failed to go over their team total in the process. Making his Big A debut as a member of the Angels, Lucas Giolito was locked in as expected leading the Halos to victory while going over his K prop in the process. The SGP involving the Astros/Orioles was cancelled due to the pitching change. Let’s see if we can add to the bankroll once again with some Tuesday night parlay pick winners – SLAM YOUR MAN!!

Houston Astros vs. Miami Marlins
We opened this series by backing Framber Valdez against Braxton Garrett on the MLB odds and banked on the Astros getting the leg up in the series. We will however reverse course and go with the home based Marlins in game two with Cristian Javier set to square off against veteran right-hander Johnny Cueto. While the former has trimmed 2+ runs off his July ERA through a pair of August starts, the righty is still walking batters (3.1/9) and getting knocked around the ball yard (7.8/9); heavy damage simply hasn’t shown up on the scoreboard with him allowing 5 ER through his 9.2 IP. While he could shine in this spot against a Miami offense that rates out terribly against the slider per Baseball Savant, I’ll bank on more of that successful home cooking to whip up yet another enticing meal and help lead the Fish to another win in LoanDepot. Miami remains in the thick of the wild-card chase sitting in position three two-games ahead of Chicago entering the week. They must hold serve here and let the Hump Day matchup that pits Verlander up against Luzardo decide the outcome of this series.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. New York Mets
I don’t know how he did it, but Bailey Falter avoided falling to 0-8 last time out even though the lefty served up eight more hits and 4 ER with a 3:2 K/BB ratio through 4 IP against the Braves. Since being shuttled to Pittsburgh at the trade deadline, Falter has been ripped for 14 hits (2 HR) and 5 ER with a 5:3 K/BB ratio all the while never seeing the fifth inning in either of his two starts for the Buccos. While Atlanta and Milwaukee are on completely different ends of the spectrum when it comes to teeing off on LHP and the Mets have been awful (No. 27) much like the Brewers, I’m still getting in line to fade his weak sauce in this spot. David Peterson doesn’t impress either, and the Buccos have shown some recent bite at the plate having just wrapped series against the NL leaders and Reds while averaging a healthy 5.1 runs per game. All that does is paint a picture of a high-scoring matchup here with neither starting pitcher in the best of forms.

Baltimore Orioles vs. San Diego Padres
Let’s close the night out in beautiful Petco where the Orioles and Padres will lock horns in the second of two of this interleague set. White hot Baltimore currently sits atop the AL East standings 3-games ahead of the Rays who look to be spiraling out of control due to the injury bug continuing to ravage the roster. Only the Braves have logged more wins than the O’s to this point of the baseball betting season, and that tells MLB bettors that this Baltimore team is every bit as real as the record suggests. Had it not suffered a shocking loss in the opener at Minute Maid to kick off last week, Adley Rutschman and his mates would invade San Diego having won back-to-back road series against the Astros and Mariners! Squaring off against Darvish in the opener and Snell in the finale, this is the game Baltimore must triumph in should it extend that series winning streak to six straight dating back to the end of July. I’ve been impressed with what Jack Flaherty has done since coming over from St. Louis in allowing 10 hits (1 HR) and 4 ER with a 16:4 K/BB ratio. Should he be able to curb the walks against San Diego’s heavy hitters, he’ll be in line for win No. 2 as an Oriole with this being Michael Wacha’s first start back from an extended stay on the IL.
