July 3, 2023We failed to cash any of our MLB Same Game Parlays last Tuesday night even though we cashed five of the nine overall selections. The Braves cost me a good chunk of the bankroll last week and it started with Joe Ryan laying an egg in Truist. Sandy Alcantara showed up big versus Boston in going 7 innings, but the Marlins shockingly busted out the whipping sticks on Garrett Whitlock early to bust our position on the F5 under. The Dodgers covered the run-line and got to Seabold enough to cash the over of his hits allowed prop, but somehow failed to exceed their 7.5-run team total. Let’s see if we can’t reel in some green with tonight’s SGP’s over at BetRivers Sportsbook – SLAM YOUR MAN!!

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Miami Marlins
It’s amazing to me that Adam Wainwright continues to get sent out to the bump as rough a season the veteran has had with the MLB betting season entering the month of July. The right-hander has made 10 starts and allowed a whopping 77 hits (8 HR) and 40 ER with a laughable 25:17 K/BB ratio through 48.1 combined innings of work. I get that he will have his jersey retired at Busch Stadium one day, but it’s pretty safe to say he doesn’t deserve to be marched out every fifth day. With a 6.2 swinging strike percentage (No. 197) and 23.6 called + swinging strike percentage (No. 194) per Pitcher List, the Marlins look destined to get much wood on his stuff enough to the point that they hang a crooked number on the board. While Jesus Luzardo has been one of my ride or die’s all season long, I think a Redbirds lineup that plates 5.3 runs per game against LHP and fared well against the southpaw in his only career start against them last season will also lend a hand. Look for the meat of this series sandwich to be of the higher scoring variety.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Tampa Bay Rays
Before breaking this matchup down I must let it be known that the Phillies have been nothing but poison to my bank roll when backing them on the MLB odds this season. Even so, I can’t help but take a stab here with it playing some fantastic ball the second half of June with three straight series wins under the belt. Aaron Nola has by and large been one of the bigger disappointments of the year in fantasy circles with the veteran right-hander 7-5 with a bloated 4.51 ERA and his K/9 down to 8.7 and BB/9 up to 2.5. That being said, the Phillies have come out on top in each of his last two road starts, and he’s had some success against the limited Tampa bats he’s opposed throughout his career. How Zach Eflin is 9-3 with a 3.29 ERA is beyond me! Philadelphia possesses some potent bats that’ve raked against the cutter and sinker, so he’ll be in a world of hurt if that Uncle Charley fails to show like it has so many times before. Tampa hasn’t been playing its best brand of ball of late while the Phillies look to be surging. I’m betting on those trends continuing in the opener of this interleague set.

Los Angeles Angels vs. San Diego Padres
Extra rest for Shohei Ohtani has me buying into the Japanese import closing the first half of the season with a bang against a Padres offense that’s grossly underperformed through the midway point of the season. Since failing to log quality starts in his first two June starts, Ohtani has rattled off three straight against the Rangers, Dodgers, and White Sox giving up just 15 hits (1 HR) and 4 ER through his last 19.1 innings of work. Though not as nasty on the road then when at home, I fully expect Ohtani to enjoy the comforts of working in pitcher friendly Petco Park. Also impressive through six June starts has been right-hander Joe Musgrove who allowed 9 ER and racked up a 30:7 K/BB ratio with all but one of his six made starts being of quality. This one has all the makings of a pitcher’s duel written all over it with both hurlers dominating the opposing offenses.
