NHL Picks – NHL Network Doubleheader Sunday Picks
March 24, 2023NHL Picks – Monday’s Top Best Bets
March 24, 2023Paul Goldschmidt played baseball professionally for 11 years winning four Gold Gloves, four Silver Slugger Awards, and was voted to six All-Star Games. What he never did was win an MVP Award coming in as the runner-up in both 2013 and 2015 while finishing in the top-10 numerous times. That all came to an end last season after the St. Louis Cardinals first baseman put forth the best campaign of his 12-year career in his age-35 season to lock down the NL MVP Award. He did so as a 50-1 underdog at BetRivers Sportsbook!
Heading into the 2023 MLB betting season, “Goldy” offers up the fourth shortest rate of return to win it again (10-1). No thanks! Here is the favorite, underdog, and longshot selections I’m hitching my wagon to in hopes of cashing in on the MVP Award odds.

Favorite to Bet: Ronald Acuna Jr. +850
I’m well aware Trea Turner is the flavor of choice heading into the regular season with his odds dipping from +1320 to +800 due to his heroics in the World Baseball Classic. I get it. The kid is a special talent. However, I want everything to do with Ronald Acuna Jr. now that he’s a full season removed from destroying his knee back in 2021. When healthy, there isn’t a more exciting player in the National League than the Atlanta Braves outfielder.
A career .277 hitter with 120 home runs, 296 RBI, and 107 stolen bases, this is a 5-tool player playing on an Atlanta Braves team expected to be a major player on both the NL and World Series odds that owns a 94.5-game season wins total. And to think he’s done most of his damage at the plate batting leadoff! Should Brian Snitker finally wise up and put him in a better counting stat position within the batting order, the sky’s the limit for the 25-year old who will be going all-out to make up for lost time the last few seasons. Do shop around for the best rate of return with BetRivers currently shorting us with this offering.
Underdog to Bet: Fernando Tatis Jr. +2000
Here’s to hoping Fernando Tatis Jr. is done riding motorcycles or any other heavy equipment that can injure him in the near future. It would be great if he stays away from the sauce as well! If that’s the case, we just might laugh ourselves all the way to the bank knowing we took the books with this offering on the NL MVP Award odds. When healthy and locked into the San Diego Padres everyday lineup, there might not be a deadlier player in the game!
Before succumbing to the injury bug and hurting himself due to extracurricular activities and then following it up by taking a banned substance, Tatis Jr. was far and away the most electric player in the Bigs. There might not be a streakier hitter than the Friars infielder who is must see TV whenever in the midst of a heater. Having already placed in the top-four of MVP voting in 2020 and 2021, it’s only a matter of time until he takes one home. The career .292 hitter with 81 home runs, 195 RBI, and 52 stolen bases is simply too good to be denied. Don’t fret about him being suspended for SD’s first 20 games. He’ll make up for lost time lickety-split playing with an enormous chip on his shoulder.
Longshot to Bet: Cody Bellinger +15000
Once upon a time, Cody Bellinger was heralded as a can’t miss prospect coming up with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He won the Rookie of the Year Award in 2017 after launching 39 bombs into the cheap seats and plating 97 ribbies. Two years later, he won the NL MVP after batting .305 and hitting 47 long balls to go along with 115 RBI. He like many fell on his face in the COVID season, but then continued to struggle mightily over the next two seasons to quickly fall out of favor in Tinseltown.
Here’s to hoping a change of scenery and new fan base helps get this kid out of his own head so he can get back to terrorizing opposing pitchers and playing an All-Star caliber of defense to help put the Chicago Cubs in a position to challenge for NL Central bragging rights. A beer money investment is mandatory at this rate of return just in case lightning strikes!
