January 21, 2022The 13th-ranked LSU Tigers visit the 24th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday in a game that can be seen on ESPN. This is a rematch from a game earlier this month that LSU won 79-67 in Baton Rouge. This will be the second game of a two-game road trip for the Tigers, as they were at Alabama on Wednesday and now face the Volunteers on Saturday. Tennessee comes into this game rested, as they last played on Tuesday, as they won 68-60 at Vanderbilt. The Volunteers will likely be a small home favorite in college basketball odds in this contest. Let’s look at Saturday’s matchup and NCAA basketball picks.
No. 13 LSU Tigers at No. 24 Tennessee Volunteers, 6:00 p.m. Eastern (ESPN)
The Tigers were 15-2 SU and 13-4 ATS before their game at Alabama on Wednesday and they had gone under the total in 14 of their 17 games. The Tigers don’t score a lot of points, as they average just 75.1 points per game which ranks 111th in the country. Where they thrive is on defense, as they give up just 57 points per game which is 7th in the country. They rank 1st in opponent field goal percentage defense.
Tari Eason leads the team in scoring at 15.4 points per game. Xavier Pinson leads the team in assists at 4.7 per game, while Darius Days leads the team in rebounds at 7.6 per contest.
Tennessee is 12-5 SU and 10-7 ATS with 10 of their 17 games going under the total. The Volunteers are averaging 75.1 points per game which is 112th in the country. They are giving up 63.4 points per game which is 49th in the nation.
Santiago Vescovi leads the team in scoring at 14 points per contest. Kennedy Chandler leads the team in assists at 4.9 per game, while Olivier Nkamboua leads the team with 5.6 rebounds per contest.

Last Meeting
These teams met earlier this month and it was LSU winning 79-67 at home. The Tigers led 42-35 at the half. Turnovers were a huge problem for the Volunteers, as LSU scored 13 points off 15 Tennessee turnovers. Not only were turnovers a problem, but Tennessee senior forward John Fulkerson did next to nothing, as he scored just three points. Kennedy Chandler led Tennessee with 19 points. LSU’s Tari Eason led all scorers with 24 points and he also pulled down 12 rebounds.
LSU has won 7 of the last 10 meetings in this series and they are 7-3 ATS with seven of the ten going over the total. The Volunteers have won 6 of the last 10 at home in this series but they are just 5-5 ATS with five games going over the total and five going under.
LSU Tigers at Tennessee Volunteers Free Picks
The advantages in this game would seem to be with Tennessee since they are at home and have an extra day of rest. The problem I have with taking the Volunteers is that they simply can’t be trusted. Neither team is potent on offense but at least with LSU you know they are going to play tough defense. That is not always the case with Tennessee. The home court edge should help the Volunteers on Saturday, but will it be enough? LSU won at home by 12 points in the first meeting earlier this month and I don’t know that much has changed since then. I would definitely keep an eye on the injury report to make sure Pinson plays for LSU. If he is in the lineup then I think the Tigers have enough of an edge to get this win. It is also worth considering the total in this game, as both teams play good defense and there may be some value on the under considering these teams went over the total the first time they played.
