SEC Futures Odds Betting – If Not the Alabama Crimson Tide, Who?
January 26, 2023AFC Championship Betting Picks- Bengals vs. Kansas City Chiefs
January 27, 2023The month of February is right around the corner which means conference tournaments in the mirror are closer than they appear. I recommended taking three positions on the college basketball futures odds at PointsBet Sportsbook last week. They included Alabama (+1000), Creighton (+5000), and Texas A&M (+20000). The former and latter stayed put but we beat the market with the Bluejays now ponying up a 40-1 return. Throw those three into the mix with Purdue (+1500), TCU (+4000), Xavier (+5000), Kentucky (+5000), and St. Mary’s (+8000), and we’ve built a nice little portfolio filled with college basketball futures odds goodness!
Instead of buying more shares this week, I’ll instead pony up three teams we should all pay close attention to due to futures odds movement just in case the recent hot streaks turn into something more concrete down the road.

Kansas State Wildcats
Though Jerome Tang’s kids dropped an 80-76 decision at Iowa State on Tuesday night, the Kansas State Wildcats saw their odds of cutting the nets down drop from 60-1 to 40-1. I guess oddsmakers were as impressed as I was that they came away with a cover and became the first team to go for 70+ in Hilton.
As a diehard Jayhawks fan, it pains me to buy into what Markquis Nowell and co. is cooking but it can’t go overlooked any longer. However, an extremely tough stretch is on the horizon with Florida, @Kansas, Texas, and TCU on the docket over the next two weeks. Though three of the four matchups come at home, each is a potential loss. A better rate of return could surface during that stretch so it’s best to sit on the sideline and observe.
Indiana Hoosiers
Don’t look now, but Mike Woodson has got the Indiana Hoosiers finally living up to expectations with Trayce Jackson-Davis and his mates rattling off three straight wins and covers against the CBB odds versus Wisconsin, @Illinois, and Michigan State. With the team’s overall health the best it’s been all season, the Hoosiers tickled the twine for 80+ points in all three triumphs and saw their odds to win the national championship shrink from 60-1 to 50-1 because of it.
This team entered the year the odds-on +320 favorite to win the B1G regular season title, and there’s still a path for it to do that with two games still remaining against Purdue and Michigan as well as rematches with Illinois, Northwestern, Rutgers, and MSU. The Hoosiers got @Minnesota, Ohio State, and @Maryland up first so let’s see how the team fares before investing.
Texas Longhorns
I honestly still don’t know what to make of the Texas Longhorns. The whole Chris Beard fiasco had Austin unsettled for a good amount of time, but it looks like Rodney Terry and his staff has done a good job quieting the storm. Since getting plastered 116-103 by K-State at home, the only loss on the ledger came in the form of a 78-67 loss in Ames where Hilton Magic got the best of them. They did however log commanding wins on the road at Oklahoma State and West Virginia as well as home wins against TCU, Texas Tech, and OK-State to sweep the season rivalry against the Cowpokes.
All said, I’m still not sure what the identity of this team is. I’m not sure they even know! On paper, Marcus Carr and co. looks great. The Pomeroy Ratings rank the Horns the ninth best team in the country. I’m not sure I buy that though due to its inability to both shoot (No. 198) and defend (No. 132) the 3-ball. We’ll no doubt regret not buying in now at a nine percent bump over initial price point if they go into Knoxville and upsets the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday.
