June 15, 2023USFL Betting – Week 10 Odds and Picks
June 16, 2023The New York Jets snapped a string of four straight seasons where the team failed to surpass its win total odds. After managing just four wins in Robert Saleh’s first year at the helm, the J-E-T-S Jets! Jets! Jets! went for seven wins throughout the 2022-23 NFL betting season and showed marked improvement from the previous season after playing to a -1.2 scoring differential. The figure clocked in at -11.4 the year prior! New York looked every bit the part of a playoff team following the Week 12 31-10 smashing of the Chicago Bears, but the offense would fall off the map the remainder of the year ultimately costing the franchise a shot at second season glory. I stated all year long that the Jets were a quarterback away from not only competing for division bragging rights, but also having a seat at the AFC table to represent the conference in the big game. Well, GM Joe Douglas went out and made the move to bring Aaron Rodgers to Gotham which in turn saw their odds of making some noise this season plummet over at BetRivers Sportsbook. What is it with the Jets being enamored with resurrecting the careers of former Green Bay Packers quarterbacks? Due to No. 12’s presence, NY’s win total is now the highest it’s been since 2010 (9.5). It sits only behind the Bills on the futures odds to win the AFC East, and only the Chiefs, Bills, and Bengals possess shorter odds to win the AFC title – what a difference a quarterback makes!

New York Jets Season Wins Total: 9.5 Over -125
According to Sharp Football Analysis, the Jets possess the seventh toughest schedule when going by opponent win totals. Last season, they played to the league’s sixth toughest schedule and produced seven wins. Much of that had to do with the fact that New York knocked it out of the park in the NFL Draft with WR Garret Wilson winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award and CB Sauce Gardner winning the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Had Breece Hall not ripped his knee apart early in the season, it’s likely he and his teammate would’ve been battling for OROY honors. The Jets dramatically improved their roster last season and did a solid job shoring up problem areas on the roster this past offseason via the draft and free agency. Provided the injury bug stays away from the locker room, New York will have a say in how this NFL betting season ultimately ends up and be in a position to smash its win total.

New York Jets Season Win Total Analysis
We cashed in on the Jets win total a season ago after recommending a play on over six wins. Though we cashed that ticket in by the slimmest of margins, New York only ended up getting outscored by a grand total of 20 points. With Rodgers now under center and improvements made along the offensive line via the draft and free agency, you can’t help but think the offense will be in a position to flourish and sustain provided injuries don’t derail the Jets plan of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy come the conclusion of Super Bowl LVII. Their odds to do so currently clock in at 20-1 over at BetRivers which finds it seventh in the pecking order only behind the Buffalo Bills (+900) within the division and ahead of the Miami Dolphins (+2500).
The AFC East figures to be very competitive evidenced by the current futures odds to win it and the fact that three of the four members are currently favored to punch a ticket to the playoffs. That being said, there isn’t a division with a tougher cumulative schedule strength than that of the AFC East. It’ll ultimately be the survival of the fittest and you can’t help but think having Rodgers calling the offensive shots puts New York in an advantageous position. There is no sign of relief within the schedule, but I love seeing that Week 7 bye nestled in immediately after the toughest part of the slate. It’ll give the team time to lick its wounds and gear up for a stretch run. So long as this team stays healthy, it’s going to put on a show and be one of the more intriguing teams for NFL bettors to back and fade over the course of the regular season. I’ll stick to my guns and expect the upward ascension of this franchise to continue. They got a bonafide QB1 now, so there will be no excuse if the Jets can’t compete with the Bills and Dolphins for AFC East bragging rights.
