June 9, 2023NBA Finals Game 4 Same Game Parlays
June 9, 2023While the Philadelphia Eagles more or less ran away with the NFC East title to make it a third straight season a different team took home bragging rights, the division was ultra-competitive evidenced by three of the four overall members going on to punch tickets to the playoffs. A quick glance at the current odds to win the NFC Championship finds the Philadelphia Eagles (+300) and Dallas Cowboys (+650) the top dogs with the New York Giants (+2200) in the middle of the pack followed by the Washington Commanders (+3500). This division hasn’t seen a repeat champion since the turn of the century when the then Andy Reid-led Eagles took home four straight titles. If Nick Sirianni were to pull off the feat, he would do so without both coordinators that helped him punch the franchise’s ticket to Super Bowl LVII. Let’s break the current offerings at BetRivers Sportsbook down and see how they stack up in the heart of the offseason.

What an incredibly memorable run it was for Philadelphia a season ago! A year removed from losing in the wild-card round to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Eagles went on to win the NFC and represent the conference in the big game where it would ultimately go down in defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs. Regardless of whether you think Philly was robbed of the title due to some shoddy late-game refereeing, it was still a banner campaign for the franchise that could potentially serve as the stepping stone for many more years of dominance.
Jalen Hurts lit the league afire throwing for a career-high 3,701 yards and 22 touchdown passes all while only tossing six errant passes. On top of all that, he added another 760 yards and 13 tuddies with his legs making him one of the best players at the quarterback position in fantasy football. A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith remain his top two wideouts, but some new toys were also brought in to play with in the forms of D’Andre Swift, Rashaad Penny, and Olamide Zaccheaus. GM Howie Roseman shored up his deficiencies along the defensive line by acquiring the services of Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith in the draft, while also bolstering the offensive line with Tyler Steen. Think upper management is a big fan of the SEC?

Three seasons worth of the Mike McCarthy era are now in the books in Big D. After churning out a losing campaign in the COVID-stricken 2020 season, the Cowboys have rattled off back-to-back 12 win campaigns to easily eclipse their season win total odds and punch tickets to the playoffs. However, both campaigns resulted in second season losses to the San Francisco 49ers with the offense failing to hit the 20 point plateau in both defeats. That’s not going to cut it for Jerry Jones and co. who know they have a roster worthy of much better.
Knowing he had a major deficiency along the defensive line in stopping the run (No. 22), Jones made it a point to bolster his front seven in the NFL Draft by landing DT Mazi Smith out of Michigan, LB DeMarvion Overshown out of Texas, and DE Viliami Fehoko Jr. out of San Jose State. TE Luke Schoonmaker was also brought in from Michigan to help better deal with the defection of Dalton Schultz to the in-state rival Texans. Armed with one of the most talented rosters in the league, it’s up to the coaches and players to allow for the team to live up to its routinely lofty expectations.

With just one playoff appearance since 2012, it was the New York Football Giants that opened many an eye over the course of the 2022-23 NFL betting season in the first season of the Brian Daboll era. The former Buffalo Bills OC immediately made his presence felt turning Daniel Jones into a competent NFL level quarterback. “Dimes” would go on to throw for a career-best 3,205 yards and career-low five interceptions. The end results earned him a lucrative contract extension. Saquon Barkley underwent a renaissance under his tutelage as well in combining for 1,650 scrimmage yards and 10 touchdowns. Most importantly, he avoided the injury bug and started 16 games.
It all amounted to the GMEN’s first playoff appearance since 2016! While able to impose its will against a terrible Minnesota Vikings defense in the wild-card round, New York was nowhere near competitive in the 38-7 Division Round loss to the rival Eagles letting it be known much work was still needed to be done in order to turn this team into a Super Bowl contender. GM Joe Schoen used four of his seven draft picks to shore up the defense – mainly the secondary – and armed the offense with a potential home run hitter in WR Jalin Hyatt. NY is once again the dark horse of the East!

Armed with arguably the best defense in the NFC East and maybe even the entire conference, the Commanders once again hovered around the breakeven point in the third season of the Ron Rivera regime. Many an NFL bettor has stated that Washington is a quarterback away from competing with the big wigs in the lesser conference. The hope of GM Martin Mayhew is that the QB of the future was selected in the 2022 NFL Draft. With Carson Wentz no longer infecting the offense, the Sam Howell era will kick off in earnest this NFL betting season. If it doesn’t pan out, Jacoby Brissett could prove to be a huge offseason pickup.
It’ll be interesting to see how it all comes to shape with new OC Eric Bienemy calling the shots for an offense that’s grossly underachieved. Washington ranked amongst the bottom third of the league in the most pertinent of stat categories a season ago save for clocking in with the 12th ranked rushing attack. All the pieces are in place for a huge jump in the rankings provided everything falls into place quickly and efficiently. As stout the defense has proven to be under the current coaching staff, it would be nice to see an increase in the forced turnovers department (No. 29). That’s something that could be rectified with the draft acquisitions of cornerbacks Emmanuel Forbes and Jartavius Martin.
