September 5, 2024NFL Odds – Packers vs. Eagles Same Game Parlay Recap
The Green Bay Packers may have lost more than just a football game in their setback to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1 of the NFL season. The first NFL game ever played in Brazil was a barn-burner with the Eagles prevailing, 34-29, but an injury to Jordan Love in the final seconds of the fourth quarter is what’s getting attention. Love was helped off the field and it’s expected he will miss at least a few games. The Pack got slammed as bad as we did on our NFL same parlay picks for this matchup.
The outcome may have been different if the Packers had more success in the red zone. They forced turnovers on Philly’s first two possessions starting inside the Eagles’ 20-yard line both times. However, the drives fizzled and culminated in field goals that gave Green Bay an early 6-0 lead. The Packers were only 1 of 4 in the red zone and it proved costly since they lost outright with NFL betting odds at one time of +132 on the moneyline. “The red area was a huge problem,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur stated.

It didn’t look like the game would reach the closing NFL football line total of 49.5 points with players having difficulty maintaining their footing on the foreign turf. The Packers had a two field-goal advantage after the first 15 minutes before the offenses rallied over the next two frames scoring a touchdown on six of seven possessions between them to pay out OVER bettors.
Saquon Barkley made his Philly debut a success scoring the team’s first two touchdowns. The former top pick of the Giants rushed for 109 yards on 24 carries and had two receptions for 23 yards. Barkley had three TDs outdueling Green Bay’s Jayden Reed, who scored on a 33-yard sweep and a 70-yard reception. Each team had more than 400 yards of offense and combined for 824 in the game. Jalen Hurts was 20 of 34 for 278 yards and two TDs while Love finished 17 of 24 for 260 yards

After a playoff run last season that saw them upset Dallas in a wild card game and drop a close one to eventual NFC champion San Francisco, the Green Bay Packers are poised for bigger things in 2024 led by Jordan Love. They open the season against Philadelphia on Friday night in the first ever NFL game in Brazil. While the Packers were trending up at the end of last season the Eagles were going the opposite direction. They lost five of their final six regular season games and were outclassed by Tampa Bay, 32-9, in the playoffs. The Eagles also failed to cash out in their last seven games going 0-7 against the NFL betting line. Can the Eagles return to the form that took them to the Super Bowl just a few seasons ago? Oddsmakers at BetMGM have installed them as a 3-point favorite on the early line.
The Week 1 NFL game between the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles will take place on Friday, September 6, 2024 from Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo, Brazil at 8:15 p.m. ET and will be streamed on Peacock.

This isn’t the ideal way to start a season with NFC contenders heading to South America to play a game. But when the almighty NFL chases the money anything can and eventually does happen. When the game starts it’s all about football, though, and the Eagles have plenty at stake after last season’s collapse. What makes their fall more puzzling is that it kinda came out of nowhere. In 2022 they went 14-3 and advanced to the Super Bowl where they lost, 38-35, on a last second Kansas City field goal. They opened last season winning 10 of their first 11 games before the roof collapsed.
A lot of the blame for the Eagles struggles was thrown at Jalen Hurts, though it was unwarranted. Hurts had a decent season throwing for 3,858 yards and 23 touchdowns with an additional 605 yards and 15 scores on the ground. He did throw 15 interceptions, though, obliterating his previous high mark. The point production was also down over the failed stretch with the Eagles failing to score 20 points in five of their final seven games.
It was the Philly defense that caved. Five times in their last eight games they allowed more than 30 points and they finished 30th in points allowed and 26th in total defense. They hired Vic Fangio, a longtime successful defensive coordinator in the league, to reconstruct the group.
Coming off that poor stretch Hurts didn’t play a snap during the preseason. You’d think he’d get at least a series or two at some point just to get the rust off, but he didn’t. And the Eagles are employing a new offensive coordinator in Kellen Moore. The offense may score on every possession and look great doing it, but I highly doubt it leaving Hurts and his mates to work out the kinks on the fly.
Love and the Packers just got better as the season progressed, winning six of their last eight regular season games. Love had a coming out party in the 48-32 playoff win over Dallas as a 7-point NFL betting line dog completing 16 of 21 for 272 yards and three TDs. The Packers finished just outside the top 10 in points scored and total offense last year and with a full complement of talented receivers they should be even better as Love enters his second season as the starter. The offense could be affected by the loss of Aaron Jones, but Josh Jacobs will pick up the slack after rushing for more than 1,000 yards in three of his previous five campaigns with the Raiders.
I was flummoxed by the opening NFL betting line for this game. The final metrics last season mostly favored Green Bay and with this taking place at a neutral site, I didn’t expect the Eagles to be favored. I think there’s plenty to patch up on the Eagles side and going against a young upstart like Green Bay puts them in an awkward position. Offense is typically behind at the start of the year so backing the UNDER is a NFL best bet.
