Dallas linebacker Micah Parsons is a slight favorite to win the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award for the 2024-25 season at odds of +500 at Caesars. Just behind Parsons is Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker TJ Watt at odds of +575. He is followed closely by Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby at odds of +650 and reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, defensive end Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns at odds of +700. Top Contenders
Micah Parsons (+500)
Parsons won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award in 2021 and he has been a dominating player ever since he came into the league. He had 16 sacks last season for the Dallas Cowboys and if he could avoid injury his numbers could be really eye-popping in 2024.
T.J. Watt (+575)
Watt won this award in 2021 and he very well may have repeated in 2022 if not for injuries. He had 19 sacks last season to lead the league, but he still finished behind Myles Garrett for the award. Watt has been plagued by injuries in each of the past two seasons so it is hard to get too excited about taking him at this low number considering his injury history.
Maxx Crosby (+650)
One of the most energetic players in the NFL is Crosby and he is capable of dominating on a regular basis. The Raiders could be better defensively this season and that may help his cause.
Myles Garrett (+700)
Garrett won this award last season even though he did not lead the league in sacks, as Watt had the most sacks. Garrett played through a shoulder injury last season and he still finished in the Top 10 in every notable defensive category. He could have a lot of value at this number.
Nick Bosa (+700)
Bosa won this award in 2022, as he had 10.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss. He will get a lot of attention playing for the 49ers and he plays on a really good defense. He is definitely capable of winning the award again this season.
NFL Defensive Player of the Year History
This award was first given out in 1974 and seven players have won the award more than once. Nine of the last 10 winners of this award finished with at least 11 sacks. Playing on a great defense is not a necessity, as four of the last nine winners have played on a defense that ranked outside of the Top 10. Linebackers have won this award 17 times, defensive ends 14 times, defensive tackles 10 times, cornerbacks 6 times and safety 5 times.
NFL Defensive Player of the Year Picks
I don’t take a lot of favorites and I am not taking Parsons. I just don’t think he can get enough sacks and I don’t think the Dallas defense puts him into enough good spots for him to dominate. That is not the case with Myles Garrett. He is capable of wrecking opposing offenses and he won last year without getting the most sacks and he won when he wasn’t even fully healthy. I think he should be the favorite and we get 7-1. The only other player who I think has value is Detroit’s Aidan Hutchinson. He is capable of dominating a game and he plays on a Detroit team that will get a lot of attention. He is worth a look at 10-1.Check out the latest NFL odds at Caesars.
