Top Contenders
T.J. Watt (+350)
Watt has dominated this award in recent seasons, winning it three times in the last four years. He has averaged 15.1 sacks per season except for 2022 when he was injured. There are a number of concerns if you are backing Watt this season. First, there is not much value in taking him at this low number. Second, he has been injury prone of late and has missed time. Third, teammate Alex Highsmith could reduce Watt’s sack total.
Micah Parsons +375
Parsons had 13 sacks in 2021 and his total went up to 13.5 in 2022 and 14 in 2023. His numbers should continue to go up, as he will now be coached by Mike Zimmer who has had top 10 defenses wherever he has gone. Parsons could be in line for a big season for the Cowboys in 2024.
Myles Garrett +500
Garrett is a dominant defensive player who has been in the mix for most sacks in each of the past four years. He had 14 sacks in 2020, 17 in 2021 and 16 in each of the past two seasons. There is no reason to think Garrett won’t at least match last year’s number of 16 and it wouldn’t take much for him to go over that number and win the most regular season sacks total for 2024.
Maxx Crosby +650
Crosby had career-high totals of 90 tackles and 14.5 sacks last season. He is one of the most energetic players in the NFL and does it all for the Raiders. He could be a little undervalued at this number, but more defenses are double-teaming him, realizing that Crosby can wreck their offense.
Trey Hendrickson +800
Hendrickson had a breakout season a year ago, as he had 17.5 sacks and was just behind T.J. Watt for the most sacks. It may be hard for Hendrickson to duplicate that number, especially since Cincinnati has other players who can get to the quarterback.
NFL Sacks History
The player to get the most sacks has finished with at least 18.5 sacks in five of the last six seasons. The last five players to finish with the most sacks were T.J. Watt in 2023, 2021 and 2020, Nick Bosa in 2022 and Shaquil Barrett in 2019. The only time in recently history when the winner didn’t dominate with big numbers was in 2020 when Watt led the league with 15 sacks.
NFL Most Regular Season Sacks Picks
I don’t take a lot of favorites and I am not taking Watt at his low number. His injury history and the low number have me leery. Parsons is definitely worth a look but I don’t like his low odds either. I think there is more value on Garrett if you are looking to take one of the top contenders. I also think that Aidan Hutchinson is worth a look at odds of +1800. He actually finished second in the NFL in total pressures but didn’t get as many sacks as expected. That should not be the case this season and Hutchinson is capable of leading the league this year.Check out the latest NFL odds at Caesars.
