Hot and Cold College Football Teams

November 19, 2021By Phil Simon
Well, it was another good week for underdogs in the NFL with teams catching points going 4-7-1 SU and 7-5 ATS. And another sign that you just never know is that three teams getting at least a converted touchdown on the closing line won outright. Playing as a 10-point dog the Washington Football Team handed it to Tom Brady and the defending champion Buccaneers 29-19. The team formerly known as the Redskins takes on another upset winner Carolina in Week 11. The Panthers knocked off the NFC-leading Arizona Cardinals 34-10 as a 7-point road dog. The surprising Panthers enter Week 11 as a playoff team holding the seventh spot in the NFC. They opened as a 3.5-point favorite in that matchup. The betting week opens with a Super Bowl LI rematch between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons. You might remember that game for the epic comeback or meltdown, depending on which you team you were rooting for. Winners or four in a row SU and ATS, the Pats hit the board laying 5.5-points.

Week 11 Biggest Line Moves
New England Patriots at Atlanta Falcons
Here we are again touching on this matchup. A lot has changed since the Pats overcame a 28-3 deficit to win the Super Bowl a few years ago. It does appear as though New England is back to being a playoff contender behind Mac Jones, though. After opening the season with two wins in six games the Pats have reeled off four straight wins and covers. They also haven’t lost to the Falcons in over two decades going 7-0 SU and ATS in the last seven meetings.
Last week’s results forced some movement in the line. New England opened as a 5.5-point road favorite, but that number was quickly wagered up to -6.5. The Pats rolled Cleveland 45-7 while the Falcons were abysmal in every phase in their 43-3 loss to Dallas. They aren’t as bad as they played last game, but they aren’t quite a playoff team either. And the Falcons have yet to win on their home field going 0-3 SU and ATS at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Washington Football Team at Carolina Panthers
In the eyes of the betting public Carolina’s upset win at Arizona was more impressive than Washington’s takedown of Tampa Bay. And overall the Panthers have been a better team this season with one of the top defenses in the NFL. Both teams have struggled on offense this season, but the Panthers made a move that paid off immediately on Sunday. Cam Newton ran for a touchdown on his first offensive snap and threw a touchdown pass later as the Panthers posted a season-high point total in their 30-14 win.
Get some offense to get with a punishing defense and the Panthers are a playoff contender. They opened as a 2.5-point favorite with that number quickly bet up to Carolina -3.5. And the Football Team will have to navigate the remainder of the season without Chase Young, who sustained a season-ending leg injury in Week 10.
Cincinnati Bengals at Las Vegas Raiders
This game opened with the Raiders as a slight 1.5-point favorite, but after their collapse on Sunday night in a 41-14 loss to the Chiefs the public was all over Cincinnati. All the off-field problems have caught up with the Silver and Black, who are 0-2 SU and ATS in their last two games. The Bengals haven’t been much better, but at least their coach hasn’t resigned and no players killed another human in a car accident.
Cincy had an off week to regroup after losing its last two games, including a double-digit blown lead to the Jets. Still at 5-4 entering this game the Bengals have had a monster season and I don’t think they’re ready to give up. The game was wagered to a pick ‘em and you can expect Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase to light things up in the Nevada desert.
