Is NFL Strength of Schedule Important?
I answered this question when I looked at the NFL Best Regular Season Record odds article with a resounding Yes. Looking at last season. Of the 17 teams that had the hardest schedules, only four went to the playoffs. And only four of the 17 teams that had the hardest schedules went over their win total.
2024 NFL Strength of Schedule (Hardest to Easiest)
1. Browns .547
2. Ravens .536

What this list tells you is that you may not want to bet on any of the nine teams who have the easiest schedules to finish with the worst record next season. That would take out the Panthers who are listed as the second choice in the NFL betting odds to finish with the worst record in 2024-25. Carolina is tied with Chicago for the third-easiest schedule in the NFL this season.
On the other side of the coin, we have teams to consider that have the toughest schedules and those are the teams we want to look at, as they could struggle all season. The top 10 teams in terms of toughest schedules for 2024-25 are the Browns, Ravens, Steelers, Packers, Texans, Bills, Giants, Jaguars, Raiders and Patriots.
NFL Worst Regular Season Record Picks
I don’t take a lot of favorites in sports betting, but it is hard to argue with the Patriots as the top choice to finish with the worst record. At least we get almost 3-1 on our wager. Going strictly by strength of schedule we would also have to look at taking Denver at +650 and the Raiders at +900. If you want a big longshot then Pittsburgh is worth a look. If things completely fall apart with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields at quarterback then Pittsburgh could collapse and we get 40-1 on them finishing with the worst record. I still think the best bet is New England, as there is simply not much to like about the Patriots; their win total is the lowest of any team at 4.5, plus they have a tough schedule.Check out the latest NFL odds at Caesars.
