Another week is in the books and we’re seeing a few teams make significant moves in the NHL standings. Colorado remains the hottest team in hockey having won five straight to move into ninth place in the West.
In the East, the Carolina Hurricanes still lead the way at 14-2-1 though Florida is nipping at their heels.

Who’s Hot?
Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins have won three straight contests after starting the season 5-6-4. The current winning streak has bumped them into eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Pittsburgh has pitched two shutouts throughout this streak, outscoring its opponents by a total of 11-1 in that time. They’ll square off next against the Vancouver Canucks, having -190 money line odds at SugarHouse sportsbook.
Calgary Flames
The Flames have won four of their last five outings, shutting out three of those foes. The lone defeat was an OT shootout versus Philadelphia but this current run has helped Calgary move into first place in the Western Conference standings.
The Flames will put a three-game winning streak on the line tonight in a matchup versus the Chicago Blackhawks. They enter the contest as 1.5-goal favorites.
Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers are 7-3 over their last 10 games, including having won their last two. Those victories came over Chicago and Winnipeg.
Edmonton is scoring at a high rate notching five goals or more in six games since the start of November. They’ll travel to Dallas tonight to take on the Stars as one-goal underdogs. The way that Edmonton is playing of late, they may be worth a look when making tonight’s NHL picks.
Colorado Avalanche
Colorado has won five straight games to improve to 9-5-1 on the year. After a slow start, the Avalanche have been on an absolute tear. During this recent run, the team has produced scoring outputs of 7, 7, 7, 6, and 4. They’ve outscored those opponents 31-13.
Next up is a matchup versus Anaheim. The Avalanche are big favorites with -265 money line odds.
Who’s Cold?
NY Islanders
The first of three Eastern Conference teams on major losing skids, the Islanders have dropped six straight contests. The issue for New York has been getting the puck in the net as they’re averaging just one goal a game over their last six outings.
Making things worse, the defense has allowed four goals or more in five of those contests resulting the Islanders being outscored 27-6 over the course of this losing streak. They’ll lace up the skates on Wednesday against the crosstown rival Rangers.
Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres have been even worse that New York over the last 10 matchups, posting an abysmal record of 2-7-1. The two wins surprisingly came against teams on the Who’s Hot list in Pittsburgh and Edmonton, but things have been pretty disappointing outside of that.
Buffalo has fallen to 13th place in the East with a matchup against Boston looming. The Sabres currently hold +195 money line odds at SugarHouse sportsbook.
Ottawa Senators
The Senators have struggled in the month of November notching just one win in eight tries. Those losing ways have landed Ottawa a place all by themselves in the cellar of the Eastern Conference standings.
The Senators are just 4-11-1 through 16 contests becoming just one of two NHL teams yet to reach the five-win mark. When making your next NHL picks, it’s best to avoid Ottawa. They’ll face off Wednesday night against the San Jose Sharks with +145 money line odds. The Sharks got the best of the Senators in the year’s first meeting, winning 2-1.
