November 29, 2022The North Carolina Tar Heels visit the Indiana Hoosiers on Wednesday night in a game that cane be seen on ESPN. The Tar Heels had been ranked No. 1 in the country but consecutive losses to Iowa State and Alabama dropped the Tar Heels to 5-2 on the season and all the way down to No. 18 in the AP Poll this week. On the other side, the Hoosiers are unbeaten at 6-0 and ranked at No. 10. The two teams may not be at full strength for this game, as two preseason All-American players are dealing with injuries. Indiana’s Trayce Jackson-Davis and North Carolina’s Armando Bacot are a bit banged up. Jackson-Davis is still getting back to full strength after dealing with a back injury, while Armando Bacot suffered an ankle injury in the loss to Alabama. Let’s look at North Carolina vs. Indiana picks.

North Carolina Tar Heels at Indiana Hoosiers
North Carolina was rolling along and then came the loss to Iowa State and then a four-overtime loss to Alabama. There is no question that the Tar Heels are still very good and once healthy they will be a formidable foe. Bacot said that he is going to try to be ready to play against Indiana and the Tar Heels need him as he is averaging 16.7 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. “I’m gonna try my hardest (to play against Indiana),” Bacot said to the media, “I never want to sit out a game, and especially a big time game like that. I’m gonna try my hardest to get out there.” The Tar Heels are averaging over 82 points per game and giving up 75 per contest, but some of those numbers are skewed because of the Alabama game.
The Hoosiers are unbeaten and relatively untested, as their only tough game was against Xavier. Their other five opponents were creampuffs. The Hoosiers are averaging almost 89 points per game and giving up only 59.3 per contest. Those numbers have to be taken with a grain of salt, as Indiana has yet to face any good competition. Jackson-Davis is leading the team in scoring at 18.8 per contest and he leads them in rebounds at 8 per game. Head coach Mike Woodson said that Jackson-Davis is getting back into form after his injury. “He didn’t play a lot of minutes today,” Woodson said to the media, “We’ll go back and assess where he is. You know, he has these next few days to get ready for Wednesday’s game. So like I told him when I broke huddle, you guys that are a little beat up, you’ve got to get in and get treatment and get yourselves ready for Wednesday because that’s our next game.” Find all updated college basketball betting odds at PointsBet.

Whenever I see two high profile teams that have played different schedules I like to look at strength of schedule. The Tar Heels have at least had some decent opponents and played some tough games, while the Hoosiers haven’t played anyone. The early season schedule for Indiana hasn’t done them any good in terms of getting ready for conference play. This game will be their first real test of the season. There is no question that the atmosphere in Bloomington will be crazy, but this North Carolina team has played and won in tough arenas in the past. As long as Bacot plays, the Tar Heels figure to have the edge in what should be a close game. I expect that the Hoosiers will be listed as the home favorite in this contest and that means we get some value on North Carolina. The Tar Heels will want to bounce back from their loss to Alabama and I expect them to play well on Wednesday night.
The Pick: North Carolina
