NFL Most Regular Season Sacks Odds and Picks
July 16, 2024CFB Futures – 2024 Iowa State Cyclones Win Total Odds
July 16, 2024The final major of the season gets underway on Thursday in Scotland with World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler favored in the Open Championship. Scheffler is listed at odds of +400 at Caesars but he is not the only player listed at single-digit odds. World No. 2 Rory McIlroy is next at odds of +800 and is followed by U.S. Open winner Bryson DeChambeau at odds of +900. Also listed with odds of +900 is Ludvig Aberg who was looking like a winner last week in Scotland until a poor back nine. All of the world’s top players are in the field this week including LIV players, so you’ll see DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton among the top contenders. I have had a lot of success picking LIV winners this season, so we’ll see if that success can carry over to this week. Let’s look at Open Championship odds and picks.
Reduced juice betting is one of the best ways for any sports bettor to save money and far too many people don’t take advantage of it. If you are not playing at a sportsbook that offers reduced juice betting then you are simply giving away money. Check out the latest Open Championship odds at Caesars.
Venue: Royal Troon in Scotland is the site for this year’s Open Championship. It is a par 71 that measures 7,385 yards. It should be noted that the course is nearly 200 yards longer than it used to be with the par 5 6th hole stretching to 623 yards. There are a number of blind tee shots on the course, including the 12th hole which is nicknamed the “Railway Hole.”
Last Year: Brian Harman proved that accuracy off the tee is more important than distance, as he won his first major. And his win was not a fluke, as he won by six shots over Jason Day, Tom Kim, Jon Rahm and Sepp Straka. The win broke a six-year win drought for Harman.

Favorite
Scottie Scheffler +400
It was another favorite not named Scheffler losing last week, as McIlroy was not a serious threat last week at the Genesis Scottish Open. I say on a weekly basis that golf betting favorites are a losing proposition overall except for Scheffler. This week we have Scheffler as the favorite and the odds are about what would be expected at 4-1. I don’t take favorites that often, but I think you can make a good case for taking Scheffler, even at these odds. He is that good.
Golf Picks
Collin Morikawa +1000
Morikawa definitely has the game to do well at the Open, as he won the Open Championship in 2021. He is 2nd on the PGA Tour in Driving Accuracy and he is 16th in Shots Gained: Off the Tee. He also ranks well in Scrambling and there will be times this week that every player gets into trouble. Morikawa has been close to winning many times this season but couldn’t close the deal. Perhaps this is the week.
Tommy Fleetwood +2000
Fleetwood is still looking for his breakthrough victory. The Open Championship would seem to be a great opportunity for him. He was the first-round leader last year at Royal Liverpool, he finished fourth at St. Andrew’s in 2022 and he was a runner-up at Royal Portrush. He ranks well in total driving and in approach and scrambling. I expect him to be in the mix this week.
Tom Kim +3300
I said last week that Kim is ready to win and that his play has been improving. He was very much in the picture last year and if not for an injury he may have challenged Harman. Kim has played well on links courses in the past and he is accurate off the tee and his approach play is solid.
Shane Lowry +3500
Lowry has been prepping for the Open by practicing at Royal Troon, so he will be ready for this week. Lowy would do really well if the weather turns bad this weekend. He has played well in majors in the past and his play this year has been solid. Lowry is accurate off the tee and he has solid stats in many other categories. I think he could contend this week.
Tony Finau +3500
Finau has struggled in majors overall, but he played well at Royal Troon in 2016 with a top 20 finish and he looks like a different player today. He played well in the U.S. Open last month, finishing third. He is usually a good player to back in the wind and it could be windy this week at the Open.
Tom Hoge +125000
I will throw in one big bomb and go with Hoge. One of the key stats to keep in mind this week is Shots Gained: Approach. Hoge is one of the best iron players in the world and yet he doesn’t always get the attention of some other golfers. He shouldn’t be listed this high, as he is very capable of being in the mix this weekend and we get 125-1.Check out the latest Open Championship odds at Caesars.
