The Michigan State Spartans staged a dominant second-half comeback to defeat Oregon 86-74; earning head coach Tom Izzo his 353rd Big Ten win, tying Bob Knight’s conference record. The Spartans erased a 14-point halftime deficit behind Jase Richardson’s career-high 29 points, with 18 coming after the break. His performance was especially meaningful, as his father, former Spartan and NBA player Jason Richardson, was in attendance for a reunion of Michigan State’s 2000 national championship team. Filling in for the ill Jeremy Fears, Richardson nearly matched Miles Bridges’ freshman record with a game-high 33 points in his first East Lansing start.
Oregon started strong, building a 50-36 halftime lead thanks to Jackson Shelstad’s 18 first-half points. However, the Ducks struggled offensively in the second half, with Shelstad finishing with 22 points and Kwame Evans being the only other player in double figures (10). The loss extended Oregon’s skid to five games, its longest since the 2013-14 season. Michigan State took control early in the second half, led by Richardson’s two-way performance. Jaxon Kohler recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Tre Holloman (13 points) and Jaden Akins (10 points) also contributed to the comeback win and college basketball betting odds cover.
The main reason why I recommended laying the points and pairing it with the under for a same game parlay was because of MSU’s noticeable advantage on the glass. While Sparty ended up outboarding the Ducks 40-27, Oregon exceeded expectations over the first 20 minutes with it reeling in a number of offensive caroms that led to converted second chance scoring opportunities. Though none of that occurred over the final 20 with Oregon scoring 24 second half points after going for 50 in the first, the damage was done early resulting in the combined score flying past the 147-point total killing our position on the under.
Oregon Ducks at Michigan State Spartans Same Game Parlay Picks
Saturday morning’s same game parlay picks take us to the Breslin Center in East Lansing, MI where the No. 9 Michigan State Spartans will attempt to bounce back from a humbling west coast road trip when they host the Oregon Ducks in the program’s first meeting as Big Ten rivals. After suffering a tough 70-64 loss at USC as 3.5-point favorites, Tom Izzo’s kids dropped another heartbreaker to UCLA three-days later but covered as 2.5-point underdogs. Dana Altman’s squad saw their losing streak swell to four on Wednesday night after falling 80-76 in Ann Arbor to Michigan, but they did manage to put an end to a six game coverless streak after sticking within the closing 7.5-point spread.
Caesars Sportsbook will have Sparty installed near 10-point home favorites on the college basketball betting odds with the total set in the mid to high-140s.

Oregon Ducks
Losers of four straight for the first time since 2013-14, the season has taken a dramatic turn for the worst since scoring huge resume-building wins against Alabama and Texas A&M at the end of November. The Oregon Ducks were right there with the Wolverines on Wednesday night shooting better from the field overall and matching Michigan with nine 3-point makes. Oregon also played dead even on the glass (38-38). It faltered however both in the paint, where it got outscored 36-24, and at the free throw line where the Wolverines were afforded 10 more attempts.
Four players tallied double-digits in scoring led by Jackson Shelstad’s 18 points, but it was TJ Bamba that was most impressive logging his first double-double of the year with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Though the Ducks ultimately came up short, this was one of the team’s better showings in the last couple weeks. It’ll be interesting to see if the upswing continues against the win-hungry Spartans.
Michigan State Spartans
With Magic Johnson in attendance, the Spartans came a missed Jaden Akins three-point shot at the gun away from pulling off the mild upset against UCLA that would’ve seen the team split their west coast road trip against former Pac-12 namesakes. Instead, the 63-61 defeat dropped Michigan State to 18-4 straight up (SU) and 13-8-1 against the spread (ATS) to fall a half-game in back of the Purdue Boilermakers atop the B1G standings.
Akins led the way in scoring with 15 points on 6 of 14 shooting with three makes from beyond the arc, while Carson Cooper came off the bench to pull down a team-high 10 rebounds. Had MSU not been so sloppy with their possessions of the basketball in turning it over 16 times, it likely would’ve won the game considering it destroyed the Bruins on the glass (45-27).
Same Game Parlay Picks
Michigan State possess an enormous advantage in the rebounding department in this matchup which leads me to believe the Ducks will have a terrible time of it creating many second chance scoring opportunities. Unlike the Wolverines who rank out as a middle of the road defensive rebounding club, the Spartans make it a point to reel in loose caroms at the defensive end of the court. Oregon was able to come up with 12 offensive rebounds against Michigan. I’d be shocked if it smelled half that amount against MSU who ranks 22nd in defensive rebounding percentage.
Jaxon Kohler and his teammates rank among the top 20 in offensive rebounding, which should allow Michigan State to generate multiple second-chance opportunities against an Oregon squad that ranks out as a middling defensive rebounders (#164). This edge on the glass could help the Spartans create separation on the scoreboard and cover what I expect to be an inflated betting line. After a rough showing on the West Coast, MSU desperately needs a bounce-back win with a brutal schedule soon to arrive. With Sparty’s defense fully adept to contend with opposing offenses that prefer to do damage near the rim, I don’t foresee the visitors hanging in this one.
