PGA Championship Matchup Picks
May 15, 2024Preakness Stakes Longshot Odds and Picks
May 15, 2024The PGA Championship begins on Thursday and that means props are on the board for golf’s second major of the season. You can bet on a wide variety of things for the PGA Championship at Caesars, including Hole-in-One props and margin of victory. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is listed as the favorite to win the PGA Championship and you can bet on who you think will win the event and you can also bet on a Top Five finish, Top 10 finish, Top 20 finish and many other options for some of the world’s best players. I’ll look at some of the interesting props at Caesars and also some interesting props at DraftKings. Let’s look at PGA Championship props.
Will There be a Hole-In-One?
Yes
+120
No
-150
This prop is available at Caesars and I think the No is a good choice in this prop. You see the Yes listed as the favorite in the Hole-in-One prop on some courses, but Valhalla is not a course where the Hole-in-One is as likely as some other places like Augusta. Michael Block got a Hole-in-One last year at the PGA Championship, but that was an unusual occurrence and not likely to be repeated at Valhalla. I’ll take the No on this prop.
Margin of Victory
1 Shot +230
2 Shots +360
3 Shots +600
4 Shots +900
5 Shots or More +550
Playoff +400
Did you know that in two of the previous PGA Championships held at Valhalla they ended in playoffs? It could easily have been all three, but Rory McIlroy pulled out the win on the last hole ten years ago. I know that Scheffler has been dominant, but Valhalla lends itself to close scoring and we get 4-1 on a playoff.
Big Guns vs. The Field
The Field -215
Big Guns (Scheffler/McIlroy/Koepka)
+160
This prop is available at DraftKings and it is one I like to look at in majors. Oftentimes I will go with The Field in this prop, but I can’t ignore the Big Guns in this one. I think Scheffler and McIlroy are clearly the top two and if there is another player I would worry about winning it would be Koepka who shows up big in majors, especially this one. I think there is a decent chance that one of the big three win and we get +160 on this prop. That being said, you could also take Scheffler at +300, McIlroy at +600 and Koepka at +1100 to win and do fine if any of the three wins the PGA Championship.
Winner in the Final Grouping?
Yes -250
No +175
The winner of a golf tournament is normally a player who begins the final round in the last grouping. The problem with taking the Yes on this prop for the PGA Championship is the price. I am not laying -250 on this prop. There is no question that Scheffler and McIlroy are the two players who could win this event coming from the final group, but the PGA Championship is an event that has seen some unlikely winners in the past. There is also the chance that one of the favorites is not in the final group on Sunday and is close enough to make a big move. I think there is some value on taking this prop at +175. I know that Scheffler has dominated the PGA Tour this season but I at least think there is a little concern about his layoff having not played in the last month. McIlroy is red-hot, but he has really struggled in majors in recent seasons. If one of these two doesn’t come through and win the PGA Championship then it could be that someone shoots a low score on Sunday and comes from behind to win and we get +175 on this prop.
Wire to Wire Winner
Yes +1000
There is simply not enough value on the Wire to Wire winner prop. Only three players in history have won a major going Wire to Wire. Bobby Nichols did it in 1964, Raymond Floyd did it in 1982 and the last player to pull it off was Hal Sutton in 1983.Check out the latest PGA Championship odds at Caesars.
