October 19, 2021The United States takes on an International team every other year in the Presidents Cup. The event has been held every other year since 1994, but it was delayed a year in 2021 due to COVID-19 and the next Presidents Cup will be held in 2022 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. The United States has owned the International team which does not include European players, so you can expect the United States team to be a solid favorite in Presidents Cup betting odds. The U.S. holds a dominating 11-1-1 advantage over the International team in the competition.
The United States team is selected with the top eight PGA Tour players in terms of FedEx Cup points qualifying, and the U.S. captain gets four picks. The International team has eight players who qualify based on the Official World Golf Rankings and the International captain gets four picks.
2022 Presidents Cup
The 2022 Presidents Cup will be held at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina from September 19-25. The course was designed by George Cobb in 1961 and has had several modifications from Arnold Palmer and Tom Fazio.
The 2022 Presidents Cup captains are Davis Love III for the United States and Trevor Immelman for the International team.
Davis Love III was born in Charlotte, North Carolina so he knows the area well. He was a three-time All-American at North Carolina and he won the Wyndham Championship in 2015. Love played in the first six Presidents Cups and went 16-8-4. Love realizes just how important it is for his American team to do well. “And it made me realize we are Team USA.
That’s the way he’s looking at it. We’re part of Team USA. We’re just the golf team. And we’ve taken that approach every year. We don’t get a three-year break between Olympics. We’re Team USA.” Love said to the media, “They just don’t show up in their private jets. They’re thinking about it all year long. How are we going to build this team to get ready to go to the Olympics? And that’s what we have to do, but we have to do it every year. We have to be ready. We have to be motivated.” History is on the side of the Americans, as they have never lost in U.S. soil, winning by an average score of 19-13.5.
The International team will have Trevor Immelman has their captain. He will be the youngest captain in Presidents Cup history at 42-years old. He was an 11-time winner in his career including wins over Tiger Woods in the 2006 Western Open and in the 2008 Masters. Immelman was the assistant to Ernie Els in the last Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne. He will be leading an International team trying to break and eight-event losing streak in the Presidents Cup. “The Presidents Cup and the PGA Tour have been a massive part of my career, and so for me to now lead the International team is something that is going to be one of the highlights of my career, and something that I can’t wait for,” Immelman said to the media. Immelman didn’t do well in his career at the Presidents Cup, going 1-6-1.
The Presidents Cup is a match play event with 12 players per side. They compete in best ball and alternate shot formats. Each of the matches is worth one points with a half point awarded for ties. There are a total of 9 foursome doubles matches, 9 fourball doubles matches and 12 singles matches. That makes a total of 30 points at stake, so the goal will be to get 15.5 points.
