May 28, 2024RBC Canadian Open Matchup Picks
May 29, 2024World No. 3 Rory McIlroy headlines the field for this week’s RBC Canadian Open. McIlroy is listed as a big favorite at Caesars with odds of +300. The second choice in the golf betting odds is Tommy Fleetwood at +1600. Last year’s RBC Canadian Open had an exciting finish with Nick Taylor becoming the first Canadian to win the event in 69 years, as he beat Tommy Fleetwood in a playoff. Taylor will be looking to win the tournament in back-to-back years and that has not been done since 1913-14. Hamilton Golf and Country Club will host the tournament for the seventh time. McIlroy won the tournament the last time it was held at Hamilton, winning by seven shots. Let’s look at RBC Canadian Open odds and picks.

Venue: Hamilton Golf & Country Club is a par 70 that measures just 7,084 yards. The course has 11 holes with water hazards, the fairways are Bentgrass with Poa Annua, while the greens are Bentgrass. The course has been renovated since it last hosted the RBC Canadian Open in 2019. The course is 112 yards longer than in 2019 and every green and bunker was re-done.
Last Year: Nick Taylor made a 72-foot eagle putt to beat Tommy Fleetwood on the fourth playoff hole. Taylor became the first Canadian to win his national open since Pat Fletcher in 1964. Tyrrell Hatton, Aaron Rai and C.T. Pan tied for third place.

Favorite
Rory McIlroy +300
It was another golf betting favorite that didn’t win last week, as Scheffler tied for second at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Golf betting favorites other than Scheffler have been a disaster this season, so taking McIlroy definitely comes with some risk. That being said, the field this week is not that good and McIlroy is a hefty favorite in terms of the golf betting odds in this tournament.
Golf Picks
Shane Lowry +1800
There is no question that Lowry is a player who can win this week. He finished second behind McIlroy the last time this tournament was held at Hamilton. He is coming off a sixth-place finish at the PGA Championship. In his last eight tournaments he has finished in a tie for 6th or better. He should be in contention this week.
Cameron Young +2200
I know that Young has yet to win on the PGA Tour, but I still think his first win is coming soon. He should do well at Hamilton as he ranks in the top-15 in the field in both SG: OTT and SG: Approach. The field this week is not that strong and this is a perfect spot for Young to get his first win.
Alex Noren +2500
Last year it was Taylor ending a long drought, as he became the first Canadian to win this tournament in a long, long time. Maybe it is time for Noren to end his long drought of not winning on the PGA Tour. He has more than 140 PGA Tour starts and has yet to win. He is having the best season of his PGA Tour career and he has eight straight top 25 finishes. He also ranks highly in a number of key categories this week. This course doesn’t demand distance and Noren is capable of contending this week.
Maverick McNealy +4000
McNealy comes in playing well with a 17th at Colonial last week and he also finished 23rd at the PGA Championship and he was 9th at TPC Sawgrass. He is a player who does well on shorter courses and he ranks highly in the field in Tee-to-Green and Strokes Gained Current Form. I think McNealy can be in the mix this week and we get 40-1
Erik van Rooyen +5500
Van Rooyen is capable of playing at a high level when motivated and there is no question he would like to make the President’s Cup International team. He needs to make a statement and winning this week just might do the trick. He can get hot with the putter and he can contend this week.
Hayden Buckley +30000
Why not a big bomb that would make the year? Did you know that Buckley finished 5th last week in Fort Worth? He likes these shorter courses and he has played well in Canada in the past. He is also a player who seems to play well in streaks, especially back-to-back, so Buckley could surprise this week.
