The PGA Tour heads to Detroit this week for the Rocket Mortgage Classic where Tom Kim is listed as the golf betting favorite. Kim lost in a playoff last week to Scottie Scheffler. It was a painful loss for Kim and also painful to us, as we had Kim at odds of 50-1 to win last week. Kim is listed at odds of +1200 at Caesars For the Rocket Mortgage Classic. This week’s event is not a Signature Event, so there are not many top players in the field, as the highest ranked player is Kim at No. 16. Cameron Young is only other player listed at odds of less than +2000, as Young is +1400. Let’s look at Rocket Mortgage Classic odds and picks.

Favorite
Tom Kim +1200
Scottie Scheffler delivered as the favorite last week, but he is the only player worth taking as a golf betting favorite. I say on a weekly basis that golf betting favorites are a losing proposition overall except for Scheffler so that makes taking Kim a risky proposition. There is also the possibility of a letdown for Kim after his playoff loss to Scheffler last week.
Golf Picks
Maverick McNealy +2800
A player who should do well this week is McNealy who is known for his driving distance and his putting. He has had a good season, making the cut in each of his last 12 starts and he has four top 15 finishes this season. He has played well in Detroit with a tie for 8th and a tie for 21st in his three appearances. The field this week is not that strong and McNealy can contend.
Taylor Pendrith +4000
Pendrith is playing well and just missed out on an Olympic spot. He finished 16th at the U.S. Open and he was 23rd last week at the Travelers. He finished 2nd in this event two years ago and he finished 14th last year. He is definitely a player who could be in the mix on Sunday and we get odds of 40-1.
Davis Thompson +4000
Another player listed at 40-1 is Thompson who had a 2nd place finish at the Myrtle Beach Classic. He also played well at the U.S. Open with a 9th place finish. He ranks 17th on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green. He finished 24th in this event a year ago.
Ryan Fox +5500
When it comes to distance off the tee, Fox is one of the longer hitters. He has played mainly on the DP World Tour in the past, but he is getting more familiar with the PGA Tour. Fox is playing some good golf and he made the cut at the U.S. Open. The field this week is not that good and Fox might be able to contend.
Ben Griffin +6000
Griffin is getting closer to his first PGA Tour win. He has four top 15 finishes in his last eight starts, including a runner-up finish at the RBC Canadian Open. He could be in the mix this week at longshot odds.
Lee Hodges +6000
Things are going pretty well for Hodges right now, as he closed with a 65 last week at the Travelers to move up to 31st. He has a pair of 12th place finishes of late as well. He ranks highly in this field in putting, approach and current form. I think he is undervalued at these odds.
Matt Wallace +7000
Wallace was the favorite last week in the KLM Open on the DP World Tour and he finished 15th. He gets a more favorable course this week in Detroit where he has played well in the past including a 12th place finish four years ago. He is another player who ranks highly in this field in a number of categories including Strokes Gained Current Form.Check out the latest Rocket Mortgage Classic odds at Caesars.
