For what it’s worth my other NBA game picks paid off with Minnesota covering as 10.5-point favorite against Indiana. The Golden State Warriors covered by half a point taking out Brooklyn 124-120 as a 3.5-point favorite on the NBA betting line.

NBA Schedule for Saturday, December 23

Orlando at Indiana, 7 p.m. ET

Detroit at Brooklyn, 7:30 p.m. ET

LA Lakers at Oklahoma City, 8 p.m. ET

Whenever the Detroit Pistons are on the schedule you have a better than 65 percent chance of winning by betting against them. So, following the trends that’s what I’m going to do on Saturday. The Pistons are, well uh, awful. Their losing streak reached 24 games with a 130-124 setback to Atlanta on Monday, but they did end a six-game ATS slide by covering the NBA betting line for just their 10th payout of the season. And making the decision easier is the fact that the Brooklyn Nets have one of the best home cover rates in the NBA winning as a NBA spread pick more than 83 percent of the time. You still have play ball and the Pistons haven’t done a good job making the Nets a NBA best bet.

A team with the youthful vigor of the Thunder can run the aging Lakers off the court. And that’s exactly what happened last month in OKC’s 133-110 triumph. What’s made the Thunder so successful this season was encapsulated in that one game. Seven different players scored in double figures, the Thunder had a 14-point edge in fast break points and killed the Lakers inside outscoring them 54-38 in the paint. And that was with LA at full strength. OKC has been a revelation led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren among others. SGA averages more than 30 points while Holmgren anchors a top 5 defense with nearly three blocks per game.

It’s awful tempting to back the OVER whenever the Indiana Pacers play. The NBA’s best offense coupled with the worst defense makes for entertaining games and a lot of points. Cashing the OVER 16 times in their first 18 games had oddsmakers scrambling and the betting markets eventually caught up. Four times in six games they played with a total over 250, including a game against the Wizards just over a week ago with a closing total of 261.

The total won’t be that high for Saturday’s tilt against Orlando since the Magic are more methodical in their approach and actually play defense at a high level. The teams played in Indianapolis in mid-November with Orlando securing a 128-116 victory covering the 4.5-point NBA betting line. They went OVER the total of 235.5, but like I said the markets have adjusted and that number will likely be higher when NBA odds are released.
