April 18, 2024UFL Betting – Week 4 Parlay Picks
April 18, 2024Scottie Scheffler will focus on the RBC Heritage in South Carolina this week after winning the Masters. However, the second major of the year, the PGA Championship, is quickly approaching, and it makes sense that oddsmakers think he has a good chance of winning at Valhalla. The bigger question that is now being considered is whether or not Scheffler can win the Grand Slam. Scheffler is now a +450 favorite to win the PGA Championship in Kentucky next month, according to oddsmakers at BetMGM Sportsbook. This is about where he was pre-tournament at Augusta National last week, when he easily won his second green jacket in the previous three years. He would be the smallest favorite to win the PGA if the line stays true, since Tiger Woods was a +400 favorite at Oak Hill in 2013.
When futures markets opened in May of last year, Scheffler was listed at +750 to win the PGA Championship. He stayed there until his THE PLAYERS victory at TPC Sawgrass last month, at which point he dipped to +650. When the Masters last week got underway, Scheffler was +550 to win the PGA, but after his strong showing at the Masters, gamblers moved their focus to the next major on the calendar, which caused Scheffler’s price to drop once further.
Similar futures odds are listed for Scheffler for the final two majors later in the year. At BetMGM, he is +450 to win the U.S. Open at Pinehurst and +600 to win The Open Championship at Royal Troon. He is the only player now priced under +1000 for each of the final three majors.
But can he combine to win all four majors, which would be the greatest single-season accomplishment? Scheffler’s Grand Slam odds at BetMGM is listed at +8000, which is equivalent to the same odds of Brian Harman or Rickie Fowler winning the PGA Championship.
Scheffler finished second in the PGA Championship a year ago and he was second in the U.S. Open in 2022. His best finish in the Open Championship was a tie for 8th in 2021. Here are Scheffler’s Grand Slam odds at BetMGM.
How Many Majors will Scheffler Win in 2024?
One: -150
Two: +160
Three: +800
Grand Slam: (Four) +8000
To give you an idea of just how unlikely it is for Scheffler to win the Grand Slam, in the last 10 years a total of three players have won two majors, Brooks Koepka in 2018, Rory McIlroy in 2014, and Jordan Spieth in 2015. The closest we have seen anyone get of late was Tiger Woods, who won three of the four majors in 2000. He actually won four majors in a row, but not all four in the same season. It is interesting to note that all nine of Scheffler’s PGA Tour wins have come in the early part of the year in February, March and April.
The only player to achieve the Grand Slam was Bobby Jones in 1930. It was done before the Masters even existed and before the term “Grand Slam” was even thought of, because no one thought anyone could win the four majors in a single season.
Even today, very few people think winning the Grand Slam is possible, especially since Tiger Woods couldn’t even do it. More people talk about the career Grand Slam now, as that is winning each of the four majors at least one in a career. Only six players have ever done it; Jones, Woods, Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player. In the current era, with the Masters in the list, only five players have won the career Grand Slam.
