Sony Open in Hawaii Odds and Picks

January 10, 2024A full field is ready to tee it up this week at the Sony Open in Hawaii where Ludvig Aberg is the golf betting favorite. Not many big names are in the field this week, so it is Aberg, Brian Harman, Matt Fitzpatrick and Tyrrell Hatton who are among the top golf betting choices. This is the first full field event of the new calendar year so it is back to normal with a cut after the first 36 holes. There are plenty of matchups available at Caesars, including Matthew Fitzpatrick vs. Tyrrell Hatton. I started off the new calendar year in fine fashion, going 3-1-1 with the matchups last week at The Sentry. Let’s look at Sony Open in Hawaii matchup picks.

Defending Champion: Si Woo Kim
Tournament Notes: The last time a player won this event when making his debut on the course was 11 years ago when Russell Henley got the victory. Normally, players who win this event play the previous week at Kapalua, but Si Woo Kim broke that trend last year when he won without playing the previous week in Maui.

Golf Picks
Corey Conners -150 vs. Adam Svensson
I said last week that I am not afraid to lay prices in matchup picks and it worked out well when we had Scottie Scheffler in a winning matchup. This week I’ll go with Conners in a matchup where he is the -150 favorite over Svensson. Conners finished in a tie for 33rd last week but he likes Waialae CC much better, as he has four top 12 finishes since 2019. I’ll lay the price and take him in this matchup against Svensson.
Sahith Theegala -120 vs. Andrew Putnam
You have to like the way that Theegala is going right now. He finished second last week and is starting to prove he is among the world’s best. He looks to be a good choice in this matchup against Putnam.
Denny McCarthy -120 vs. Cam Davis
McCarthy was okay last season in this event but he wasn’t playing nearly as well then as he is now. He will get numerous chances this week to get hot with his putter. I’ll take him in this matchup against Davis.
Justin Rose -110 vs. Aaron Rai
I took Rose as a longshot in the odds preview and I’ll take a flyer with him in this matchup as well. Rai doesn’t throw a lot of fear into me going against him in a matchup, so I’ll take Rose here in this golf betting matchup against Rai.
J.J. Spaun -110 vs. Hideki Matsuyama
This matchup is a bit out of character for me, as usually take who I consider the better player. In this case though, I think something is still wrong with Matsuyama. Last week on a course that was as easy as it gets, he didn’t do much of anything. This week’s course is tougher and I think Matsuyama is a go-against until he turns things around. Spaun played well on this course a year ago and finished in a tie for 12th. I’ll take Spaun in this matchup.
