February 10, 2025Spurs at Celtics Same Game Parlay Recap
Going up against the defending NBA champions and one of the top teams in the league, the San Antonio Spurs showed they’re not quite ready for prime time with a 116-103 loss to the Boston Celtics on Wednesday, February 12. Making a move to reach the playoffs the Spurs acquired De’Aaron Fox giving them a scoring threat and a complement to Victor Wembanyama. As part of our NBA same game parlay we backed the Spurs getting 8-points on the NBA betting line at Proline+ but that didn’t work out.
In his fifth game as a member of the Spurs Fox did his best scoring a team-high 23 points on 10 of 16 shooting. Wembanyama also had a strong game with 17 points, 13 rebounds and two blocked shots. However, the Spurs shot just 23 percent from three-point range and trailed by as many as 24 points. It was a bad night for the Spurs, who had their lowest scoring game in almost a month and cashed the UNDER on the NBA odds for the first time in five games. The Spurs lost for the fifth time in seven games and fell further off the pack for a play-in spot in the Western Conference.

With Jaylen Brown missing the game due to injury the Celtics got plenty of offense from Jayson Tatum and Kristaps Porzingis, who combined for 61 points. And Boston went into the All-Star break as one of the hottest teams in the NBA. This was their third straight victory and seventh in their last eight games with payouts in each of their last three. Boston’s 19-point halftime lead was cut to eight points early in the fourth quarter, but the Celtics closed on a 23-18 run for the cover.
In addition to Tatum, who 32 points and 14 rebounds, and Porzingis, who was 3 of 4 from behind the arc, the Celtics got plenty of support from the roster. Derrick White scored 19 points and Sam Hauser added 12. Payton Pritchard chipped in 10 points off the bench and the Celtics attempted 55 three-pointers making 18 of them.

The San Antonio Spurs finish off a six-game road trip when they visit the defending champion Boston Celtics on Wednesday in the first game of an ESPN doubleheader looking to end a four-game losing streak in the series. The Spurs played three straight one-point games on this trip beating Atlanta then falling to Charlotte and Orlando ahead of Monday’s contest with Washington. A lack of success on the road has kept San Antonio on the outside of the playoff picture in the Western Conference. They are 8-15 and enter the week 3.5-games out of the 10th spot in the standings. Following a stretch where they split 12 games, the Celtics hit a hot spell winning five of six, including a trouncing of the Knicks on Saturday easily covering the 3-point NBA betting line at Caesars sportsbook. Boston has payouts in each of the last three meetings with the Spurs being favored by double-digits in every game.

The club showed its willingness to win now with the acquisition of De’Aaron Fox at the trade deadline. The move paid immediate dividends with Fox scoring 24 points with 13 assists in his team debut, a 126-125 win over Atlanta last week. You get the good with the bad with Fox and his performance Saturday against Orlando was one of his worst of the season, including his 45 gaames with Sacramento. Fox made just 3 of 11 field goals with nine points in the 112-111 setback.
Still, acquiring a player of Fox’s caliber sends a clear message that the team is eager to end a postseason drought that’s reached five seasons. The Spurs are in the thick of the race for a play-in spot but they needed to do something to curb a recent spell that saw them lose nine of 12 games to fall further off the pace. They haven’t been a good road team and recent games are an indication that they have yet to learn how to close them out. Fox had an apparent game winning basket waved off in Charlotte and Victor Wembanyama missed a jump shot in the closing seconds against Orlando.
The duo of Fox and Wembanyama could be a force in the NBA for years. Fox averaged more than 21 points in each of his five previous seasons with Sacramento and is scoring 24.6 points per game total this season. Wembanyama averages 24.3 points and 10.9 rebounds. There has been a slight uptick in offensive production in three games with Fox in the lineup and the Spurs cashed the OVER on the NBA odds total in all three contests.
Each season is its own story which is why making comparisons isn’t a good idea. The Celtics rolled last season winning 64 games and claiming the NBA title. some might find it alarming that they are the second best team in the East this season, 5.5-game behind Cleveland entering the week. Following Saturday’s win over the Knicks they’re 37-16 and not far off season’s pace when they were 41-12 after 53 games.
What has changed is their success at the betting window and their record in home games. Boston was one of the more profitable teams against the NBA point spread last season but they are just 21-31-3 ATS so far this season. They also lost just four regular season games inside the Garden in 2023-24 but fell to 16-10 at home this season and have lost four games on the parquet floor just since mid-January.
Boston has virtually the same roster from a season ago and there’s no panic among the veteran group. One thing they need to do, though, is protect their home court. Over their last seven home games the Celtics are just 3-4 SU and 2-5 ATS. They rebounded from a home loss to Dallas last week when favored by 12 points to stomp New York, 131-104, behind 40 points from Jason Tatum. The Knicks had closed the gap for second in the conference but never had a chance. Boston tends to play down to its competition and they can overlook a team with a losing record. And that’s a mistake.
